Pink Lime Salon and Spa Calgary
Poor customer service
31st of Aug, 2012 by User11021
I bought a Pink Lime Groupon for $40 which was supposed to include a Shellac Manicure and a Mini Pedicure. I booked my appointment 2 months in advance and requested their latest appointment on a Wednesday evening, which happened to be a 6pm appointment. I stated that I was going to use the Groupon as well. To add some background info, I didn't actually know that a shellac treatment is different from regular nail polish, but the words that popped out to me are manicure and pedicure and that is really all I wanted from the Groupon.

The day of, I came in a 5:45pm and gave them my Groupon. I waited in the waiting room until 6:15pm and the mani/pedicurist came to get me. She said, "I'll be doing your shellac mani/pedicure today. We'll do your pedicure first. Here are the shellac colors, which one do you want?" I chose a color, and also stated, "I actually don't want any nail color on my hands because they tend to crack, so I'm ok with just the other services that the Groupon includes on my hands minus color." She proceeded with the pedicure.

During the shellac nail painting of my toes, I inquired (out of interest) "So is there a difference between Shellac and nail polish?" She told me that Shellac was better because it cures faster and lasts longer. I must say she did a meticulous job with my toes, spending a lot of time on them.

The appointment took longer than I expected, and I had another engagement at 7:45 to attend to. The toes took until 7:15pm at which time I discussed with my manicurist "I have somewhere to get to by 7:45 so I don't think I have time for the manicure. I'm ok with not getting it done even though it's supposed to be included by the Groupon." She was ok with that and I thought to myself that I should give her a good tip because she did great on my toes.

We go to the front desk, where a slender and exotic looking lady (I believe she is one of the masseuses) was handling payments/ checkouts. My manicurist explains to her that I did not get the manicure, and I also give the manicurist a tip of $10. She leaves the scene. The front desk lady tells me "Your Groupon is for a Shellac manicure and a mini-pedicure. You're not supposed to get a Shellac Pedicure. You have to pay $25 extra for that." Obviously I was surprised.

I told the front desk lady, "No one told me about this extra cost in the beginning, and I was led to believe it was all included with the Groupon when I was led to the Shellac colors and asked which one I wanted for my toenails."

Front desk lady said, "Well, it's not included so you have to pay $25 extra."

I said, "I also didn't get a manicure because I was taken in later than I expected and have another engagement to attend to."

She said, "Well you're supposed to get a Shellac Manicure and a Mini-Pedicure on the same day."

I said, "How much does the Shellac Pedicure cost?"

She said, "$40."

I said, "OK well I paid $40 for that Groupon, and it says on there that the value of the Groupon never expires. So basically you provided me a service that I have already paid full value for when I paid for that Groupon. I'm the one who lost out on the promotional value because I ran out of time here. I'm also the last appointment so you can't say you lost business from me cancelling out on the manicure because you wouldn't have booked anyone after me. And I'm wasting my time here because I really have to go. NOW." (My leaving the spa was delayed by 7 minutes because of this conversation.)

The front desk lady said, "Well OK fine we'll let it go this time but you ARE supposed to have paid $25 extra for it." (If I did pay an extra $25 for it, then I would have paid $65 total for a service that should only cost $40 from what they said earlier.)

The truth is, it was either because the front desk lady did not communicate properly with my manicurist what the services were supposed to be for my appointment, or it was a purposeful scam! If I booked an appointment under a Groupon, should the business not make sure that those exact services are performed? Do they expect the customer to keep track of what is supposed to be done? The manicurist led me to believe those shellac colors for both my feet and hands were all included with the Groupon (another communication fail if she really knew it should cost extra).

I will never go back and I warn anyone else not to go there. Because of my experience there, I read others' reviews and realized that this is what they normally do! Pink Lime was not the victim in my case as they had made me believe at the end of my experience. They scam their customers and make them feel obligated to pay extra for services that you thought were included. Very dishonest, not the way to run a business.
