People to People Student Ambassador program Invited my daughter and I to an information meeting and showed a wonderful trip that was beyond unafforta
5th of Nov, 2011 by User509046
I took my fifteen year old daughter to an information meeting for the People to People program. We were INVITED by special invitation to this meeting. The meeting lasted around 45 minutes. At least forty minutes of the meeting was showing the children and parents this wonderful trip that your child was CHOSEN to attend. The parents were told this trip was a chance of a lifetime for your child. They made it sound like the children were lucky to have been chosen and WOULD be attending this great trip. The children were shown how they would travel several different countries and how much fun they would have. My daughter was overwhelmed with excitement about this opportunity she had been CHOSEN for. I also was extremely excited for my daughter. She had been looking forward to this meeting for quite some time. After viewing slides of the trip and hearing students and teachers explain what a learning experience and how fun these trips were and would be for your child. They finally got around to the cost. This particular wonderful chance of a lifetime trip would cost $6,500 dollars and that did not include spending money. The excitement was instantly gone from my daughters face. As a parent I could not believe we were not informed the price when it was such an extraordinary amount prior to the meeting. There was no way my daughter could attend. Being a single disabled parent I work a limited amount of hours and receive very little disability income. I feel this program should let Parents know the cost before they get children all excited about it. Instead they made the whole thing sound as if your child was selected and would be attending. Using children as a pawn to get parents with very limited income to try and come up with an amount like that is plain cruel. I feel the people to people program is a discriminatory program only intended for students of families with high household incomes. It is understandable that all families do not have the same amount of income. I just don't think those less fortunate should get it thrown in there face especially children. Juanita
