In 2006, I got a disc from PeoplePC for a "Free" trial offer. In order to get the "free" trial offer, you do have to provide a credit card number for after the first month, charges would be made to your account. At the time, it was cheaper then AOL, so I figured why not give them a try. It was not even a month before I realized that I did not like their service, it was slow, plain and boring. I called and cancelled my service, at least I thought I did. Fast forward to 2011, getting up early to pay bills and realizing there is a debit card charge on your account for early that morning. It was for PeoplePC. I gave them a call and they told me that I had the account since 2006. At first I did not remember having the account, then it slowly came back to me. I told "Jem" that I cancelled that account for I did not like it. "Jem" told me there was no record of me cancelling that account, I needed to provide a cancellation number. But "Jem" did confirm that there had been absolutely no activity on the account since 2006 too. "Gee, I wonder why?" I moved from one state to another in 2009, only God knows where that note could be at this time. So I told "Jem" to cancel the account and I felt I should get a refund, "Jem" said he'd cance the account, but a refund would not be possible. OK, I will admit that it is my fault for not paying attention to detail with my banking account. I see "debit" charge and figure it was at the store and make sure there is money to pay the bills. I'm a single parent who has worked 2 jobs, kids and a home to care for, sometimes those details are overlooked. Many of you will agree with me on that. So I do share some of the blame. My fault was also in trusting that the person who I spoke to in 2006 did as I requested, WRONG!!! Anyway, "Jem" gave me a reference number and we hung up. Later that afternoon, after stewing on the subject and discussing it with some friends, I decided to call PeoplePC back. This time I got Rob, Rob saw that I had requested a refund and assured me that it was not possible for I had to prove that I did cancel the account in 2006. He also confirmed that the account had not been used since 2006, but had no record of me requesting the account cancelled earlier in the day. So once again, I said to cancel the account and called them theives and hung up on him. A few days later, I decided to call PeoplePC again to confirm that my request had been taken care of. This time I got "Karen or Carrie", the accent was too heavy to make out her name. She looked up the reference number I had been given a few days earlier and stated that I had made a request for a refund, that was all, there was no record of a request to cancel the account. I was done, Mt St Helen would have been mild compared to my reaction. I cannot put into words what I said to her at the time, but I was given a new reference number and assured that the account was cancelled this time. I also got PeoplePC's main office address, which was not easy, as Peach St came out as "Pitch or Fith", I had to spell the word to make sure it was what she was attempting to say. Now I find this website and realize, we've all spoke to "Jem", Rob and "Karen or Carrie" and all of us "have no record of cancellation" with them. That company must be full of incompentent people or masters of the scam. At this point, I don't think coming up with my cancellation number from 2006 would do a darn thing, for they would still claim to have no record of that cancellation. I don't know about the rest of you, I have written to the main office, the BBB and state attorney generals. I will voice my disatisfaction with the company to whoever I can where ever I can. It is very apparent that they are making money ripping people off. As I told them, at this point, I should not have to prove that I cancelled the account, they should have to prove that I did not!
