PC Care 247 Pretends to be McAfee support high pressure, scare tactics, coersive, expensive Internet
4th of Jul, 2011 by User255418
I found this company by a Google search for McAfee support. It would appear from the Google search that the companies are connected. I was not aware they were not McAfee until well into the conversation. I felt very pressured to give my credit card information and told the sales person I was not sure I wanted to authorize a charge for $300 without knowing more about the company. She had all the right things to say, and very quickly, to scare me into thinking my online banking information was being hacked as we spoke and that I was going to loose thousand of 'hard earned dollars'. She said this was the reason I was not able to turn on the Real Time scan in my McAfee program. I reluctantly gave my credit card info and let them take control of my computer remotely. I then went to a neighbors house and used their computer to look for PC Care 247 and saw all the negative comments. I felt scammed! Even if they were able to fixs the problem, their unethical tactics made me sceptical and I wanted to stop the technician and the credit card charge. I called and couldn't understand the person I was talking to because of his heavy accent. Apparently, he had no trouble understanding me, though. The call was disconnected as soon as I said I didn't want them to charge my credit card. I then went to the instant chat on their website and another sales person connected right away. However, she stopped "chatting" as soon as I asked her to advise me on how to discontinue the transaction. After the "service" was complete (looks like they just installed anti malware and something call C Cleaner), someone did call me back. Again, his accent was so heavy, I could not understand a word. He put me in touch with a supervisor and I had trouble understanding him as well. I insisted I did not want to authorize the credit card charge and that I intended to dispute it with my cc company. I told him I tried to stop them before they worked on my computer, but was hung up on twice and ignored by the sales person from their instant chat. He appologized and just kept asking me to give him a chance to prove they were able to protect my computer for the next two years. He said if I was not satisfied, my credit card would be refunded. I told him anyone can say that. He got on the instant chat so I could understand him. He said he and the sales person would loose their jobs if I cancelled and would I just give them a chance. I said NO, and I do not intend to authorize the charge. He offered an extra year of service. I said it didn't matter how much time he gave me, it was a service I didn't want to begin with. He reminded me that I gave my cc info and they did not claim to be McAfee. I finally asked for control of my computer back and said I intended to call the real McAfee customer service in the morning and see what they thought of PC Care 247. I called the credit card company and they said the charge was pending, so I had to get PC Care 247 to take it off. I said, "Oh, sure. They're going to do that for me after coercing me to begin with." I can't believe you cannot get a charge stopped within 15 minutes when you discover a company is fraudulent. So, it's an expensive mistake and I'm sure their tactics will fool others. Unfortunately, it will probably be before reading the reviews.
