I live in a two story townhouse...The wax ring from the second floor toilet wore out and caused water to leak through the pipe and onto the floor through the first floor ceiling...This caused damaged to the first floor ceiling and surrounding wallboard...I called My State Farm Agent for a contractor recommendation...The agent recommended Paul Davis Restoration of Naperville...Big Mistake...I called Paul Davis for an estimate...The individual came out and verbally indicated that it would be around $2,000 of damage...They however e-mailed me with the estimate write-up...It turns out that the company sent me two estimates.. one estimate to remove the damage materials ($2,000) and another estimate for reconstruction($2,500)...for a total estimate for repairs of $4,500 (what BS!!!!!!!) In addition, some of the estimate for repairs seem irregular or downright fraudulent...For example, while there exists water damage to the first floor ceiling and surrounding wallboard, there was no water damage to the first floor carpet to which the Paul davis Rep could plainly see... Yet the rep included a write-up for cleaning and deodorizing the damaged carpet for $500 (..Are you serious???)... I also had a second contractor look at the damage...And this contractor estimated the damage at less than $1,000!!! ..After the State Farm Claims adjuster called me regarding the claim, I asked about Paul Davis Restoration...It turns out that Paul Davis is not a preferred contractor and should not have been recommended by my local State Farm Agent...As such, I did not use them for the repairs..I also believe that Paul Davis Restoration does not actually do the majority of the work but subcontracts other firms to perform the repairs and charges a mark-up ...In addition, I think they pad the bill by performing more work that is necessary since most repair work is paid for by a homeowners insurance coverage and most homeowners would not care... In any event, do not use this firm..They appear to be unethical and maybe fraudulent and probably in cahoots with local insurance agents (I changed my state farm agent after this incident)... |
