A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I stopped by Auction Liquidators in WPB because we had some items we were thinking about selling through auction. I knew that the items weren't worth thousands but I had quite a few items, of my now passed mother, that were very old. One happened to be a lovely vintage dress that my mother had purchased in the early 1930's. A blonde woman who worked there began to sort through my items and actually started laughing when she came to the dress. My first thought was that the dress might have brought back fond memories for her or she related personally to the dress, but her comment put me in utter shock. She lifted her head and told me "This looks like a whore's dress!" and continued to giggle. Still taken back, and feeling upset, I managed to inform her that it was my deceased mother's dress. Instead of acknowledging that bit of information, and apologizing for her remark she COMPLETELY shocked me with her next comment saying "I could see why she died, unfortunitely I can't sell this here because it's a bit too tacky for my auction!" I was in disbelief, and as upset as you could imagine. I bit my tongue however, and refused to stoop to her level, although I couldn't hide the emotion on my face. I take it she picked up on my reaction and got a little tense and defensive. She raised her voice to tell me "If you're upset with my business, there's the door! The same one you came in through, you can pick up this worthless sh*t you brought in and leave through it" NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EXPERIENCED SUCH HORRIBLE SERVICE AT ANY BUSINESS. NEVER HAVE I COME ACROSS A PERSON WITH SUCH DISREGARD TO ONE'S FEELINGS, AND NO REMOURCE FOR THE HURTFUL THINGS THEY'VE SAID! I have never felt more angry and upset!!. Instead of a polite turn down, not only was my mother disrespected but I as well. After this experience, I don't think I'll ever attend an auction again.
