My company rented an office building from Olaf Gebhart in Newport News, Va. During the time I do not have any complaints, I thought it was a good relationship. My company paid rent and we used his building. The ceiling was older and would leak through, and this is why my company decided to leave. We fulfilled our 6 month lease which we had in writing and was supposed to get a security deposit back. In the lease like most, it stated the security deposit will be put towards any damages and the rest will be released in 30 days. After almost 3 months after move out I called him and he claimed he was going to charge for the stains in the carpet. I explained how these stains are from ceiling leaks, you could verify this by looking above and seeing where it stained the drop down ceiling and then landed on the carpet. He agreed and said well we need to vacuum the carpet. I agreed to this and thought maybe he would hire someone to do it and charge 50 bucks even 100 max. two weeks later, our company still did not have a check, so we spoke again he claimed he was sending it. After two more weeks still no check, so I once again called and checked. This time it was another excuse, he claimed he sent it to the office and would have to send it to our new location. He promised it would be in the mail that day and we would receive it with in 3-4 days. A week later I called him and he claimed it was sent out. Finally a few days later we received the check. He charged us $265 for vacuuming the carpet. You learn from experience, and you should always take pictures and make sure you get receipts for anything that is charged. I am writing this review so hopefully the next person that rents is aware of this and hopefully they don't get nickel and dimed for their security deposit. It isn't right and I feel people should be aware of renting from Olaf before they do it. |
