On November 1, 2011, some of my family and I went to New Vista Nursing Home and Subacute Care Facility to visit my mother as usual. The difference was that this time we appeared approximately at 1941 to visit mom. We noticed her bed was empty. Upon questioning why an empty bed, we were told that she was moved to another room and then we were told that she had died prior to 12:00 noon that day! We were taken to a patient's room that held her body. That room had 2 living patients in it. Also, I was informed that the coroner's office was on the way to pick up "the body". I told the charge nurse that I did not want her to be picked up. I asked him why no one had notified me of my mother's death. I am also the next of kin. Upon the arrival of the Coroner's employee, I told him I did not want him to pick up her body. He refused to take mother away. The nurse tried to get him to take her away; but he informed the nurse that despite a Conservator: Raymond, who had told New Vista To take her body say to the morgue and not notify me of my mother's death, that the Conservator is not in control after death. The Next of Kin is in charge. The family has a right to bury their loved one as they choose. I had already informed the charge nurse that I am in charge of my mother's body now that she is dead; not the Conservator. My family and I gave New Vista Nursing home 3 different phone numbers for contact for us upon her admission in about April 2011. Plus, we have visited mom almost daily from then until now. My name, the fact that I am mom's daughter was given to them and there were are no excuses! They did a very injurious thing by not notifying me of my mother's death at all and only informing me upon my questioning it 8 hours afterwards. Then I was informed I only had 2 hrs to get rid of the body. Dr. Babaali , mom's doctor did not notify me either. I still to date do not know the official cause of death. There was talk of a code blue happening the morning of her death. The nursing director was present during this time , we were told and she failed to notify also. Also, we don't know if the Conservator, Raymond, gave an order for life support to be pulled from my mother.
