I needed some simple headshot photos for my work and Ms. Butler was recommended to me by a mutual friend. She agreed to do the pictures for me at my home because she has a traveling studio, but -- after ignoring my calls and emails for two weeks -- she changed her mind the day before the portrait sitting was scheduled and said she wouldn't be able to do it. She said she could only fit me into her busy schedule if I was able to come to her her home, where she said she sometimes does portraits. I reluctantly agreed because I was impressed by the work on her website. I had to drive two hours to get to her house because she lives way out in the sticks, in Huntington. During my portrait session, all sorts of people -- Ms. Butler's friends, I guess -- just hung around, being loud, drinking, making disgusting jokes, complaining about how long I was taking and creepily staring at me. They seemed to be wondering who I was and what I was doing there, and the feeling was more than mutual! Ms. Butler at no point made any attempt whatsoever to tell her friends to act like civilized human beings or go elsewhere so her customer could have a peaceful and comfortable portrait sitting, and she was very rude herself. I decided to simply ignore her friends and try to get this photo shoot from hell over with. As I was finally headed out the door, thankful to be getting away from her and her friends, Ms. Butler seemed upset that she couldn't find something. I simply asked her if she was okay and she FREAKED out at me: "No, I'm NOT okay! I'm fucking PISSED!!!" These were the last words she said to me -- her paying customer! -- before I left for my two-hour trek back to civilization. Trying to be professional even if she had not been, I sent her an email a few days later thanking her for her efforts and saying I had a good time at the photo shoot (that was actually physically painful to write), and asked when I should be expecting my prints, because she had not been clear on that before. She emailed me back and informed me that I actually didn't have a good time at all at the photo shoot and that her friends complained about me to her the whole time when she was out of the room, and that I should have talked to them more. I did not know any of these people and had no idea what they were even doing there and why they were just sitting there the whole time! And they were acting extremely obnoxious and, to put it bluntly, seemed like complete assholes. I am very glad I didn't talk to them! I was, however, courteous and respectful to both Ms. Butler and her friends the entire time. There was no reason for her to be so rude to me when I was leaving, for her friends to complain about me, and there was definitely no reason for her to tell me all about it. I had assumed Ms. Butler was a professional who cared about whether all of her customers were comfortable and happy, but I guess I was wrong. I really think she just didn't care because I wasn't spending that much money and, since I was just getting simple headshots done, I wasn't as fun and "exciting" as her on-location work with some of her more popular customers -- and her awesome friends, apparently -- so I just wasn't a priority to her. She also did not even answer my question of when I could expect my prints! I wrote to her several times over the next few weeks wondering where my prints were, and she never responded. Eventually, two months later, I received a small white envelope in the mail. Finally she had sent my prints! But there was no CD, as promised, and there were only about half the amount of prints I had paid for! So, on top of everything else, she stiffed me $50!!! The pictures were also of terrible quality. They were out of focus and so dark, you could barely even see who was in them, and it was clear that no retouching or Photoshop work of any kind had been done on the images. They looked like a small child, learning how to use his camera for the first time, had taken them. I have no idea who takes Ms. Butler's pictures for her on her website, but she clearly has no talent for photography whatsoever, and has horrible people, communication and customer service skills, and doesn't deliver what's promised. She thought she could just treat me like crap because I wasn't as "important" as some of her other customers and then forget about me, so thank goodness for Ripoffreport.com!! PLEASE TAKE MY WORD FOR IT: DO NOT DO BUSINESS OF ANY KIND WITH THIS WOMAN!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!! |
