In April of 2011 we contracted with Doug Henry dba Mr. Sandless Nashville to refinish the floors in our great room and foyer. On the day the work was scheduled to start Mr. Henry arrived two hours late but said the work could still be completed in one day. To expedite the work my wife and I helped move the furniture from the rooms to be refinished. The work actually took two days and upon its completion I paid Mr. Henry $2149.00. The problems started fourteen days later when my wife attempted to clean the floors for the first time. Despite using the proprieatary cleaner Mr. Henry had provided in the correct dilution ratio and using the type of mop he had suggested the floors developed a milky haze and became extremely tacky. I called Mr. Henry and informed him of the problem and he confessed to being absolutely baffled as to what the problem was. He suggested such ridiculous theories as that ther was some type of mystery gas leaking from the crawl space or that my adult children had broken into the house and thrown a wild party. After an extended period during which Mr. Henry said he was "consulting with his technical department" he said he was still baffled but nonetheless had a solution. He returned to my home and using an orbital floor cleaner with an abrasive pad he removed the finish he had just installed. He then repeated the entire refinishing procedure, in the process staining the quarter round at the bottom of the base board a dull amber color. A week later when my wife tried to clean the floor, once again using the procedure mandated by Mr. Sandless the exact same problem occured with the floors becoming so tacky that you could feel your feet sticking to them and they would grab and flip a dust mop. At this point I consulted a highly reputable local floor refinishing company who inspected the floor and confirmed there was a problem with the finish and the floors would need to be sanded to the bare wood and completely refinished to obtain a satisfactory result. At this point I called Mr. Henry and told him this. I further stated that after two failed attempts to refinish my fllors I had lost all confidence in him, his company and his product and asked him to return the $2149.00 I had paid him to put towards the $4900.00 it would take to correct the floors. He once again went into stall mode saying he would need a couple of days to explore his options. A week later he called me and abruptly told me I was not getting my money back. His reason for this was that he had done lots of floors that had turned out just fine. He seemed incapable of understanding that the possibility that other people had floors that turned out o.k. didn't make me feel better about the problems he had left me with. I e-mailed the corporate headquarters and they became the strongest possible advocate for Mr. Henry, blaming my wife and I for the problems with the floor. Refinishing the floors is going to be essential. Not only do they become tacky when cleaned, but they also scratch if you look at them wrong. We have more scratches in two months than we did in the previous six years before they were refinished despite the fact we no longer have kids or a dog in the house. I am left with no option but to accept that both Doug Henry and the corporate office of Mr. Sandless have a total lack of integrity and a total disregard for customer satisfaction . Their business model seems to be get in, get the money and get out, then totally deny any liability for any issues with the work they have performed. |
