How safe is your credit card after you book a hotel room through any one of the hotels owned by the Morgan Hotel Group? The answer to that question is simple. Your credit card information is not safe at all. Just ask Mr. David Reinprecht, a hotel guest at their Miami hotel. He was charged and re-charged three months after his departure. Here is how the story goes. David Reinprecht entered to an agreement with a man working at the reception of the Miami Delano Hotel front desk on March 9th 2011. Mr. Reinprecht and the receptionist agreed that he would put down his credit card to secure rooms until his sponsors arrived. He made it crystal clear to the man at the front desk that another party was paying for the rooms. They agreed and his card was merely used to secure the room. A short while later, a certain Miss Maria H. arrived and provided her card to pay for the rooms. Three witnesses heard the verbal agreement between Mr. Reinprecht and the hotel employee. Miss Maria H provided her card to the front desk for all hotel charges at the Delano hotel. Upon departure Miss Maria H. was charged accordingly. Ten days later it turns out that the Miss Maria H., was misusing the Sponsors credit card. She had invited herself on this this trip, and took liberty of another partys credit card. The American Express Card was being used fraudulently. American Express took care of the problem and reversed all charges, protecting their client, a Mr. Archie from Los ANgeles. Unbeknown to Mr. Reinprecht, the hotel then turned to him 3 months later. Without authorization or notifying Mr. Reinprecht, The Morgan Group of hotels charged his credit card for $3000. Miss Maria H. who committed the fraud with the American Express card had her attorney call in and Delano Hotel agreed to reverse Mr. Reinprechts $3000 charge the very next day. At this moment the hotel could have saved themselves from a major embarrassment. However, 90 days later, on Jun 13th 2011, Miamis Delano Hotel took it upon themselves to charge Mr. Reinprecht again. Perhaps this time around they would get away with it? Maybe Mr. Reinprecht would not notice the charge several months later? Wrong. Mr. Reinprecht had nothing to do with Maria Hs fraudulent activities nor did his entourage know of her malicious misdealings at the Delano Hotel on March 9th 2011. The moral of the story: Before you book a room with a few guests at any one of these hotels, make sure you constantly check your credit card, this hotel group simply cannot be trusted. Your credit card might just be next. Mr. Reinprecht, a Hollywood Promotor, proceeded to hire an attorney and also engage a PR firm in Los Angeles to take his story to the internet so that future clients would not fall into this same cheap trap.
