My Son lives in an apartment complex in Costa Mesa, CA. He is a resident and has lived there for over a year. He doesn’t have the tag on his car and as a result, his car got towed in the middle of the night. He happened to see the security guard (contracted by the apartment management) writing out a citation and placing it on his windshield. He went down and had a conversation with the guard and the guard stated it was ok to park there as he was a resident. The guard took the citation back and told my son not to worry about it. He looked outside <30 mins past and saw the car gone. I explained to him that he shouldn’t have trusted the guard (lesson learned). If he doesn’t have the tag to park available - he needs to park somewhere else or get towed. Evidently the towing company got some much needed income from this apartment complex as there were approximately 12 cars towed that night. I took my son down there the next day to get his car from the Santa Ana facility. When we got there, several others from the same apartment complex were trying to get their cars. There were 2 people behind the mirrored window glass that looks typical for anyone doing business in this shady, gang infested part of OC. They acted as though they hated their existence and couldn’t be bothered with helping anyone although they hold a position in a customer service related role. The inefficiency in thier way of conducting business was appalling at best. After standing in line in this makeshift office that smells awful, we are told that this company will not accept a debit card or credit card payment from anyone other than who is the registered owner of the car. My son is the registered owner and certainly as a student doesn’t have $205 to burn for this lesson in life. Here is where I come in to give him a loan for the fee. This makes payment a pain in the ass as I had to find a bank to get cash in order to pay cash after standing around while the girl behind the glass took her sweet time helping everyone in line. After getting cash, we end up standing in line again, now behind a bigger line. I mentioned there were 2 people in the office - 1 guy just sat around doing NOTHING to help the increasing line of people needing help. The girl that was "helping" had a bad attitude and did not have the motivation to move faster than molasses. Finally after waiting in line, getting cash and waiting in line some more, we handed over the cash only for her to start processing the paperwork, filling out a receipt by hand and then finally getting the 600 pound man in the back to collect my sons vehicle. We wasted over an hour on this ordeal and I have to say that this is the most poorly inefficient company I have seen in a long time. Customer service sucks. I suspect that they might be shady in practice as well - but I will not use this forum for that detail. I left this experience convinced that this country is going to h**l in a hand basket and companies like this are ensuring it happens sooner rather than later.
