Where to star??!! I saw a very simple painting by Matthew Olyphant last year and I thought it would go well in our den. It was the type of painting most people could do if they had time, but the palette was colorful and I figured supporting local arts was a good idea for the community. I phoned and we met and discussed the piece I wanted. At this point he was pleasant but still seemed like a strange character. I wrote it off to artist but I felt substances might be involved. He asked for over 3/4 of the agreed price upfront. I thought that was a little pushy and not standard with other artists I have commissioned works with, but I agreed. He made many promises about completing the painting by a certain date and said he would update me with photos as the canvas was large. He walked out of my home with thousands of dollars and disappeared.
Two weeks passed and no word or photos appeared. I tried calling him several times and sending him emails, but he ignored me. Finally after a.month and a week past the deadline, I left a very to the point message and drove to his studio.. I found him there and he appeared on something. There were a few women there also on something who looked like prostitutes. I could see where my money went. We exchanged words and he became outraged and began throwing objects and screaming out of control. I left in tears I was so upset over the arrangement and his behavior toward me even though I had paid for the piece. My husband had our attorney call him. Finally, he sent a photo if a painting that did not match what I asked for. The colors were alsonot wwhat I specified. I eventually received the finished and sloppy work by an angry and verbally abusive Mr. Olyphant. I expressed my dissatisfaction and told him he had not delivered. I also said he ran a poor business and had no skills or acceptable practices. I warned that doing drugs and hanging out with prostitutes at his studio would not go over in the community. He let me have it but I held my ground so he left.
Since that time, he can be seen driving by our house and circling our street several tines a day. He must be trying to scare me and it's working. I have advised the local authorities. Since this horrible experience, I have met another woman in the community who had a similar experience with Matthew Olyphant. Please avoid working with this individual because you are supporting illegal acts and he will not deliver his promises. I have never had such a bad experience doing business with anyone. After reading online about him, I have learned he has a troubled history and a bizarre lifestyle. It's a shame he's in business at all. Big thumbs down and warning to anybody considering his work. DON'T DO IT!! THERE ARE MANY TALENTED ARTISTS TO WORK WITH BUT MATTHEW OLYPHANT IS NOT ONE OF THEM. |

| UPDATE a woman contacted me through this site to add that she had experiences with this man Matthew Olyphant that were of a personal nature but the outcome was similar. She said she was in constant fear after their friendship/professional relationship ended and he refused hear the truth. He has continued to bother this woman for years. That does not bode well for my family. Having a famous brother has allowed him to stay one step away from trouble and never deal with consequences. I am hoping his streak ends soon and he pushes the next art enthusist to far. |
