Marten Transportation Marten STEALS from Employees and treats drivers terrible Mondovi, Wisconsin |

Worst company I've ever experienced and the way you are ripped off is unforeseeable. Marten Policy states supposedly that they will not reimburse any scale tickets from the truck stops unless it is over 42,000 lbs. That means you're paying for the scale unless it's roughly 77,000 pounds or better. Don't scale it and it's your ticket when you hit the state scales. But I wonder.... how the hell do I get held accountable to scale Marten Transportations' freight when I'm not an independent contractor? Beyond that, any good trucker knows that weight distribution on the trailer critically depends not only on the amount itself but also how it's loaded. You can still be overweight with 32,000 lbs much less 42,000. Also as you know most shippers will not let you on the dock to see how it's loaded. To make it worse, not only does DOT hit you up if you're overweight but then Marten turns around and charges you points much like CSA2010 does. So an overweight ticket from Dot will cost you money and points and then marten charges 8 points to your driving record with them as well. This includes DOT warnings as well they charge points for and will fire you behind this. So in Laments terms if you scale every load you will not be reimbursed for them unless it's over 42,000 lbs. And the company wonders why it can't keep drivers... It only gets worse. They are extremely disorganized. Sometimes you will miss loads because they can't find a trailer for you to get loaded with. The dispatcher they pair you with are all fresh out of college meaning they have no clue as to what they are doing. If you're a new recruit guess what? You'll be in a "blind leading the blind" situation. They pay well but between paying your own scales and them forcing you to take per diem.... They get it all back. Oh Yes! You will not be hired unless you accept their per diem program. The part they fail to tell you when you are recruited. They take roughly .03cpm from your pay to offset the per diem. Make .41cpm but subtract .03cpm. Their regional program is non-existent. They'll say they have one and that you'll be in 600 miles radius of your terminal. Hasn't happened not once yet and this was out of the Dallas Terminal! You get paid by the usual scam hhmg garbage as well to make matters that much worse. And if they can't keep you in the region you can only imagine what trying to get your home time is like. Oh and your other reimbursements like detention, lumpers and accessory pay you have to watch every pay check on. You will even have to check your completed loads. Things that Marten owes they will not pay you for on multiple occasions unless you check payroll every Friday. Also Marten policy states they're supposed to get 1 day off for every 5 days out. The idiot dispatchers will micromanage you and calculate individual hours for your time at home. This means, the minute you park the truck, your time at home is being calculated and you will get a call immediately when it's up and sometimes b4 it's up trying to send you a load. As far as that's concerned you will NEVER get home the date you send for your request to be home. It will always be 2 to 3 days later. Sometimes a week but never the day you request. Kinda ties into never keeping you in or around the region. If your truck breaks down they pay $25 for day 1 and $50 for each additional day. The mechanics are rookies as well so prepare yourself for financial disappointment if you break down. The people who run the show at Marten are complete idiots! If you have a problem I guarantee you will not get the help you're seeking concerning your problems. Oh lastly, your dispatcher controls whether and when you recieve your lumper fees, detention and accessory pay. For me, it was like pulling teeth and arguing with a little kid. You won't get ahead with this company unless you enjoy paying for your own freight and never getting home. This is as good of a warning as I can give you. I checked the service desk the other day and 20 drivers turned in their badges and quit in 1 day! You be better off getting screwed by a company like Schneider or Werner. At least your paychecks will be right. Please be warned and if you choose to accept the abuse good luck. |
