I first noticed this ad on Craigslist, but have seen it on several online job postings as well. The posting title is:
PAID SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING INTERNSHIP AND ENTRY LEVEL POSITIONS I have a practice of never blindly emailing my resume, but ask for more information first and to try to feel more comfortable with who/what I am sending my sensitive information to. The response that I received was spiked with affiliate links to free trial offers which needed to be completed as part of the application process. (I have posted entire ad and their email response requesting my "application" on my blog, easyprey.blogspot.com) Their rationale has to do with familiarizing the applicant with the products so you will be able to do a better job.
"Prior to the beginning of your job, we want you to get acquainted with software that you are going to use during your training. This step in the process also helps us evaluate candidates that are serious about this position. Below you will find software that we want you to get familiar with:" Then the list begins. For each trial product you sign up for, "Internet Marketing Media" will get a handsome commission while you "the applicant" are left holding the bag of inevitable bills. This is my first post here, but this scam irritated me so much I created a blogger blog with the craigslist ad and their bogus application in hopes that there will be one less sucker out there who sticks their neck out with their credit card so these thieves can enjoy easy commissions. I Reported the scam to craigslist.org, but I still see the ad posted. Meanwhile people are getting burned. I hope that I have helped someone.
