Leo Kaytes Ford Sold an unsafe truck as in excellent condition Warwick, New York |

I purchased a 2000 F 150 from Mark Kretz on 6/24/11.It was a graduation gift for my son.It had 76919 miles on it and looked great. The running boards had surface rust and he insisted they paint them because he could'nt let it leave his lot in that condition because they are a family business and have to take care of their customers. It was sold as " does'nt need anything for at least a year".Well it needed a full tune up which I had no intention of calling and complaining about. Then on 7/5 the brakes failed while my son drove it to a local store. When he took it into the local STS repair shop they found major rust and corrosion. The front body mounts are rotted thru and the rear differential has a crack in it.It was deemed unsafe.I called Leo Kaytes and tried to get in touch with the sales manager Leslie Culkin. Two calls went unanswered, she had the service manager return the call. They paid for the brakes but told me Ihad to reurn the truck to them for inspection. Now I live out on Long Island at least a 2 1/2 hr drive to warwick. When we purchased the truck Leslie said we could go to any dealer to have it repaired because it was going to Ohio with my son. now the deal has changed and we have to take it back there. When i brought it back they made a video of the bottom of the truck. While the service manager played the video Les;ie stood behind me laughing. They claim it's just rust any 11 yr old vehicle would have.I can put my finger thru the body mounts they are so rotted. my mechanic said it's going to be a service night mare to work on. I contacted Ford consumer complaints and was not given any advise other than to have the dealer address it.even after I told them I was laughed at. they are in a location that requires driving on some serious mountain roads. We could have been killed had the brakes failed while driving it home.To be laughed at for that is outrageous.i guess they are only concerned with family image till the sale is complete. The side steps that had to be pained to protect their imiage are rotted on the bottom as well. Their response to me not wanting the truck back was to offer 9,000 for a truck I paid 12,000 for 2 weeks earlier.I asked Mark if the truck is as good as they claim why they won't just give me my money back and resell it.He claimed they would not get the tax money back which is untrue. at this time they still have the truck and I have to now take it somewhere else to get inspected and if it fails I have to file a complaint with the state. That will take up to 7 weeks. So during that time we are without a vehicle since we let our son take our truck to Ohio for now.leo Kaytes does not give a damn about families or his customers safety, just money. |
