Kathleen Holiday Smith aka Kathryn Smith aka Melinda Price advertised her horse on Dreamhorse.com furnishing videos taken by PhotoProPhotograhy showing him in many different riding scenarios (over 70 videos). This horse was her "first horse ever" and she had no progressed to show horses. He was so gentle and loving that everyone called him "Babycakes" after his favorite treat. She would sell him to me for $,2500 including the saddle which I didn't need. I asked if she would accept $2,000 and she agreed only if I didnt take the saddle because her husband "Mike" would be so upset. She said she could get him shipped within the week to me for $400, so I agreed. She needed the money wired by 15 May per her Accountant. I complied asking for registration papers, bill of sale, and copy of the Coggins which she agreed to fax/email to me. Every day she had a different reason she couldn't get them to me, even after I sent her a BOS online to just furnish the information on. She sent the phone # of her shippers who said they were delayed due to a quarintine issue in Fla. After 2 weeks of this delay, realizing I was being scammed I requested a refund which she ignored. I demanded paperwork which she ignored. The few times I could contact her she had different scenarios of why had not received the paperwork. She finally agreed her shipper had baled on her and said she would get my horse shipped elsewhere. I finally found my own shipper (for more money) and even he had difficulty getting her to agree to a time to deliver the horse. At this point I did not even expect to receive a horse but I finally did. The 14.1 (height was very important to me being a small 62 yr. old woman) is 15.0 hands. The healthy well-fed horse I saw in the video is 250 lbs. underweight. The "no vices horse" I purchased is a cribber and wind-sucker. The class "1" temperament horse that rode along highways, streets, marshes, etc. can't even be round-penned or lunged. He goes biserk. No wonder she didn't want me to get the Coggins because it cleary shows the horse was purchased at the Vale horse sale on May 20. She tried to delay the transporter because she didn't have a health certificate which she told me she had along with the shot records. This woman is poison...stay away from her at all costs! I personally know 2 other victims of her scams and she has been reported to all authorities in N.C. She will resurface under different names but here are the addressses (which by the way are in other people's names when you do a reverse address search): 8992 Reepsville Rd., Vale, N.C. 28168......Phone: 704-612-1710 (White Pages shows that Barbara & Forrest Carroll live here, so watch for those names in the add as well) . 4057 Cottrell Place, Lenoir, N.C. 28545...Phone: 828-368-1344 (White Pages shows that Laurie & Darrell Farr live here, so watch for those names in the add as well). I've notified Dreamhorse.com and hopefully they will have the integrity to cross reference these names & numbers but don't count on it. BEWARE, BEWARE,BEWARE. You are dealing with a psychopath.) |

I just got done dealing with "Kathryn Holiday" from Vale, NC (ada Melissa, Susan, etc) I saw loads of videos and having dealth with horses for years, did something I knew better than to do. I sent a check believing that the videos were true and the woman sounded honest. Well, as soon as I dropped the check in the mail, I started getting a bad feeling.
Phone numbers were changing. I talked to a Melissa and had me send the check to her mom, Kathryn Holiday. I wasn't getting the paperwork back. Hard to reach her
We were in Michigan (northern) and the horse was in NC. 1000 miles away. So, a month later, we packed out trailer and drove arriving on April 2, 2011. Someone (whoever she was named that day) pulled a very neglected, malnurished horse out of the pasture. She was soooo thin. She had a snotty nose and visibily sick. It was all my husband could do was keep me from coming unglued on this woman. We loaded her in the trailer and brought her home. Worrying the whole way, but feeling so sorry for this horse.
She had no idea about friendly people. She is just now taking treats from us and building trust.
She was ALSO PREGNANT! Delivery in the next few days. Yup...I did it all wrong.
The Dreamhorse ad said "never been bred, temperment 1, all sorts of positives they could think of. I don't even know if the horse has been broken out. She was too sick to ride and now very pregnant. I have read many, many stories of this family all the way back to 2005.
She is a crook and has ripped many familes off and sold dangerous horses. I may be lucky and have a decent horse in the end, but she is def. going to a reputable trainer next spring.
This woman needs to be stopped before someone gets hurts on one of these horses sold as "bombproof" |
