My advice to everyone: Never sign up for classes with Kaplan U. They lie about the classes, they lie about the weekly requirements for the on-line student. The class I "took" never provided not even one on-line lecture. It was just a lot of nonsense about sharing your opinions with other students online 3 x per week, when I was told I would have on line lectures and would interact with other students 1 x per week. They lied about a student loan check I was supposed to receive--I never received it. Then when I had turned in all proper documentation that I was not attending another class, they tried to bill me for $1225. They never explained what this bill was for. I had a Pell Grant that paid 99% of my college costs to attend classes anywhere as well as a large sum of student loans available to me for paying for classes. They never applied for but $109 to finish paying for the remaining costs of the class I took that the grant didn't cover. Then they claimed I owed $1225 to them after I refused to attend any more classes. Then they called me every other day harrassing me for something I didn't owe. When I would try to ask what the bill was for they wouldn't let me talk, but constantly interrupted me. I sent the documentation by certified mail that I had not signed up for any more classes, and they still harrassed me by mail, email, and phone several times each week for almost a year. On top of all that, they had the unmitigated brass to turn this unwarrented bill over to a so called "collection agency" which turned out to be one of their offices. And last and worst, they turned this "bill" over to the crediting departments which has damaged my credit and may cause me to loose my home within the next few days if something isn't done. They know lawyers are too sorry to try and help people like me because they don't want to bother with something that is out of state. Stay away from Kaplan. The only thing you will learn is that there are a lot of crooks and cons out there in the guise of legitimate businesses. |
