John Montague is the worst example of how egregious grifters are taking advantage of 'Minnesota Nice' in our start-up company community. Despite the probably dozens of investors he's ripped off by lying about his expertise and progress on a series of start-ups, all now tanked, he continues to hover around honest people and initiatives trying to inject more energy into our start-up community. I was moved to write this because I saw video somewhere featuring Mayor Ryback talking about the entrepreneurial community and there was John in the video as if he was R.T.'s advisor. I can't believe new initiatives like Project Skyway and others seem to have John involved early on (and at least he seems to disappear when honest people spend time with him). If people would just do Web searches on all the scams, lawsuits and deadpool companies he's been involved with -- Golf Intelligence, Muve, some early-stage fund, and others -- I would think they'd stay miles away from the guy. Yes, I've been burned once by John, both monetarily and in my reputation and relationships with other people important to me. At least it was some time ago, and I've moved on. So, my advice to the Minnesota Nice start-up community is: Don't take my word for it. Just do a lot of Googling about Mr. Montague if he sticks his nose in your business. I was glad we rid Minnesota of an equally vile grifter in the person of Matt Crowe. | Hello: This report was brought to my attention by a friend who wanted to alert me of what appears to be nothing more than a clear attempt to damage my good reputation. These blatantly false statements make me wonder how many others are being smeared on this site without any factual proof or support for the claims. It makes me sick to consider that my children could stumble upon this site and be forced to comprehend why someone would say such terrible things about their father. The fact is that I have only served as the CEO and Founder of two start-up companies: Golf Intelligence (2000-2007) and Muve (2008-2009). And I'd be happy to post contact info for the employees and shareholders of both of these businesses, as I'm sure they'd be more than willing to set the record straight. In addition, I have served as an investor, board member, consultant and/or mentor to several other successful start-up and early-stage businesses (2009-2011). I am very thankful to have a very large army of friends and supporters that have been earned throughout my life. It is good that true social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook exist, so that the dishonest, malicious and seemingly ignorant people such as "User665855" are significantly over-ruled by the masses. The Twin Cities is a very small town and my solid reputation in this small town speaks for itself. I must assume that User665855 is motivated by jealousy or some sort of competitive objective. I openly invite User665855 to post any and all facts to support these awful statements -- and I encourage everyone who visits this site to make sure you are aware of the true source and motivations of these anonymous complaints before you give them any credit.
