ITechline SCAM ! Beware of SCAM
19th of Aug, 2011 by lind frost
i had a similar experience with this company as maria and joe did.

i thought i was reaching acer customer support, explaining that my computer was still under warranty, etc. (which it turns out has absolutely nothing to do with this company, since they are not affiliated with acer) and explaining the computer problems i had been having.

they told me that while my hardware was still under warranty, my software was not, and that acer did not provide tech support for software issues. this was when i began to suspect that they were not acer, so i clarified, asking "so you're not acer, but you're affiliated with them, and they contract the technical support issues out to you?"
'

and they agreed that yes, this is what they did, but i think this is a lie. i don't think they have anything to do with acer whatsoever, or with any computer manufacturers. but they have misleading links such as: acer-support.ITechline.com and dell-support.ITechline.com

so when people search for "acer tech support" or "dell tech support" or whatever other company, their page comes up, as though it is affiliated.

anyway, they told me that i had major computer problems that were so serious that i was lucky that i hadn't lost all of my data already, and that if i didn't deal with it right away, then i could lose all of my data.

they offered me the option to pay $299 for one time service, or $139 for a full year of service, telling me that they were offering the lowest possible rate available.

i hesitated, especially because i have access to free tech support at my school. but they said "are you really still thinking about it? even after we have told you how serious the situation is?". they made it seem as though i was in extreme danger of losing all of my data at any possible moment -- that it was remarkable that i still had it at all, and that i had to act immediately if i wanted to save it.

they told me that they had to rebuild this and repair that, etc. in order for my computer to continue to work and for my data to be salvaged. so i agreed to this plan, and they worked on my computer remotely, mainly just running anti-virus scans, which i could have done myself for free or near-free, and definitely didn't seem worth $139.

but i thought that maybe this was just the initial step, before all of the major reconstructive surgery my computer supposedly needed to undergo...

so i was still thankful that my precious data was saved, and just accepted the loss of the money as necessary, and far preferable to losing all of my important data.

so i wasn't that suspicious til they sent me back to their site to do some further work, and i saw that there was an advertised special of $199.95 for pretty much the same service as i had paid nearly double for.

i called them, thinking that i could get them to honor this lower advertised rate, but this was completely pointless, because they refused, telling me that i wasn't eligible for that plan, and that plan was not for serious problems like mine, but only for minor "optimization" instead. of course, the website says nothing like that, only distinguishing between "personal", "personal plus" and different "business" plans. but then they assured me that this service is no longer available, and that i couldn't possibly have signed up for it. but when i clicked the link, it took me to a sign-up page.

so it obviously was available, and i pointed this out, but they kept assuring me that it was not, which i did not believe. they said that had yet to update their website, to reflect the accurate rates, since this lower rate was not available (though supposedly, it still was just 5 minutes before, but i was simply "ineligible" then *eye roll*).

i don't see any excuse for a tech support company to have an outdated webpage. but no matter what i said, the supervisor kept telling me that they do not lie (which i had never outright accused them of, so his insistence made me suspicious), and that i had payed the lowest available rate, and that they were a legitimate company that had done good work on my computer.

but unlike a legitimate company, they absolutely refused to refund the difference to match the lowest advertised rate, and told me that anyone else i spoke to there would tell me the same (by this point, the supervisor was nearly yelling at me).

in any case, it is clear that this company tries to gouge customers for basic services, by using high-pressure, disingenuous, and manipulative sales tactics. that's obviously how they make their money. i'm just thankful that, unlike maria, i didn't pay $500!

they might have done some good for my computer, i don't know. but i definitely believe that this company uses misleading and fear-mongering techniques for gaining sales, and i suggest that you steer far clear of them.

also, unlike the company's rebuttal to maria's report states,ITECHLINE did not use paypal to process my financial information, nor did they have a supervisor handle my information. they simply have the agents ask for it. so i am getting a new bank card issued, and my bank said that while it is too late to reverse the charges, they will file an affidavit against this company (though i have no idea whether this will be successful, since it is based out of india).

so don't make my mistake -- check ripoff report BEFORE getting sucked into this and losing your money.

I fell victim to this scam myself today. Currenly on the line with a legit MS Tech who advised I do not have any viruses, contrary to what ITech Line advised with their insistence this had to be repaired right this minute to avoid catastrophe. I called my Credit Card Compant to stop the billing, but it's already in pending status, so I had to cancel my Credit Card. Now, ITech Line is phoning me (caller ID = Unknown" to harass me. MS just advised me that ITech, just this minute, infected my PC with 18 attempted viruses..AS MS was on my PC trying to correct and fix things.. So, be warned; if you don't complete your business with them to their satisfaction, they will harass and attemp further damage. RUN from ITech Line as fast as you can!!! I will be filing a Congressional Letter against them.

Posted by me at http://800notes.com/ Number Look-up site 06/09/2013
This report is about my CALLING this number rather than their calling me. I was trying to install Microsoft Office 10 on my PC using a CD which I purchased. The activation failed when I entered the Product Key so I contacted this number listed as the contact to call re. Microsoft Office 10 Activation Support. I talked for several minutes with three Indian-accented Techs - who identified themselves as "Yatin Seth, " "Amit Kumar" and "Vikram Kaul" - who worked with me by accessing my computer via the internet to determine the problem. Then I was asked to provide credit card info to pay for a one-time cost of $199.99 which would pay for the support time and the software needed to protect my PC in the future. Then they went through the process of "examining my computer" to assess the problem which they said was being caused by 2 "rogue" Trojan viruses that were emulating the KMS services associated with activation. Then they purged the system of the "affected" data and downloaded and installed a "For Life" licensed Antivirus called "Vipre". When all was done they put me on line with their "supervisor" to rate their support. He identified himself as "Ashis Mehaa". I asked them to email me a copy of the support chat session. They said they would. I checked my email this morning and had a "Thank you" notice from Visa for using my card to pay the $199.99!! Since there was no email containing the chat information, I became worried and suspicious so I used your site to look up the number and this is where I ended up!!

I had a similar experience. I needed to remove McAfee because it was causing problems with Norton, which was also installed on my computer. I thought I was contacting McAfee but ended up on the ITechLine website. They told me they were a contractor for McAfee and they could help. I spoke by phone to a "technician." He said he tried to remove McAfee but couldn't because my operating system was corrupted. I'm embarrassed that I fell for this line. He then asked me to go to a website where he gave me a code that allowed him to take over my computer. Again, I was skeptical but thought I was dealing with a legitimate contractor for McAfee. He then ran very quickly through my operating files and said 60% of my operating system had been hacked and I was in great danger. They could fix my operating system for $199.99 and it would take about an hour. I thought they were working on it, but after about 1.5 hours I could see that they were uninstalling McAfee. They then asked me to certify that the work I requested was done properly. I asked the supervisor what work had been done. He said the uninstallation of McAfee. I asked about fixing the operating system. He said something to the affect that there was nothing that needed to be done with my operating system, but they had deleted some temporary internet files. It was all a scam. He said he could not turn my computer back to my control unless I was satisfied with their services. Because I was late for an appointment, I said OK, but typed a description of the fraud that was used to sell their services. Do not be as stupid as I was and fall their scam. I did call ItechLine today, and they immediately offered to refund $99.99. Because I don't have time to fight with them over the remaining $100 I agreed.

Dear fellow Americans, The sad truth is that this company (Itechline.com) based in India as well as many
more companies around the Globe really think we are STUPID. Most of us grew up in a country, for the most part with business ethic, neighbor helping neighbor etc. The internet has stepped in allowing for these other nations who really don't get the American way and use our culture of "in good faith" type business ethics and take full advantage.
In my case, Itechline.com posted an 888 phone number on a norton security site. My computer crashed from a virus. I was able to get it running creating a new user account (with help from a good site called
tech-recipes.com, which had a post from a very smart and "helpful" NC guy-so thank you to him!)
The new user account had an old icon from norton security-antivirus. I bought it (29.99). When I tried to open the file, it was hidden as a result of the virus- all of my files and downloads are hidden.
So I googled Norton security customer Service. Here is the ILLEGAL PART- THEY POSE AS MANY COMPANY CUSTOMER SUPPORT DEPTS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMPANY.
THEY LIST FAKE PHONE NUMBERS WITH A COMPANY THAT WE TRUST!!
SO, they are preying on people IN NEED who are desperate to fix their computer problem!!! VERY VERY
MALICIOUS in my book!!! They then find out your problem, SCARE YOU WITH SOME RIDICULOUS CLAIM-(Which I feel like they just have a good laugh about later on! ooh! angers me!) In my case he claimed that my IP address was hacked and compromised and that anything wireless in my house is at risk to crash. EVEN if I buy a new computer its my IP address that has the problem. I got suspicious right there! He then proceeded to tell me that NORTON can not fix this- I need a NETWORK ENGINEER and NORTON doesn't have such a department. So, he (Jay Raj) needed to transfer me to a 3rd party company CONTRACTED, HE CLAIMED, WITH NORTON- Oh but wait- "AND WE ESTIMATE THE COST TO BE 199.00! Never in my life has someone been able to quote a price that supposedly did not have the credentials to fix the issue "AS HE STATED." That's how I knew he was a scammer. (GREED WILL GET YOU EVERY TIME JAY RAJ!).
Hung up and called Verizon FIOS - The tech support guy told me the IP address changes every 24 hours that your computer is off!!! It is built into the Verizon Fios system and never a concern.
ITECHLINE.COM NEEDS TO BE HUNTED DOWN AND ARRESTED!!!
Any positive thing you read about them is PART OF THE SCAM.
