I had an awful experience with Itech. I bought a new Toshiba computer. It was 6 days old and when I tried to log in to the internet, it kept telling me there was no wireless connection. I checked my modem and it was working. My other computer was working fine. I goggled: toshibasupport.com and clicked on the US number, listed under Toshiba laptop support. I was connected to a gentleman who asked me to shut down my computer and open it in safe mode. He then asked permission to access my computer to see if he could find the problem. He stated that my firewall had been breached and there were 5 other people using my computer at this time, and that I had pages of errors, from the original date I got the computer until the current time. He said he could repair the errors and install an encrypted double layer firewall, and three months of monitoring to insure the new firewall was working. I told him this was a new computer, one of the top of the line from Toshiba. I asked how that could happen, the computer had a firewall and I had Norton installed on it. I had only used the computer 6 times, only on Facebook playing "Words with Friends" He said the firewalls that came from Toshiba were weak and that Facebook is a breeding ground for people hacking into computers.. I asked him at that point if I was speaking to a Toshiba representative, he assured me that the number I dialed was a Toshiba phone number and that calls are routed to 4 different tech support providers, Itech being one of them. He said it would cost 199.99 to fix, and at the rate the errors were coming in, it would be prudent to get the repairs started as soon as possible. I freaked out and provided my credit card information. (MISTAKE!) I saw data flashing quickly across my screen, I told the representative to stop, I was just going to take the computer back to the store, as I only bought it 6 days prior. He stated that the problem I had was software, not hardware, and that is not covered under the warrenty I shut down my computer to stop the process. I called my credit card company to dispute the charge, but as of today, the charge is in pending status, so I have not actually been billed yet, but if they do put it through, I am disputing the charge. I got out the manuals for the computer (should have done this FIRST), and got the support phone number from that, when I called, I found out that there is a wireless button on the computer, and it had been turned off.....fixed with one click. Watch out. The website came up under a search for toshiba.support. The web address is: toshiba-support.itech.com |
