***Warning: Intelius is Stealing money from customer credit card accounts as well as Selling customer information while leaking customer's unlisted information including Address and phone number on their sister site at phonesbook.com.*** I made the Mistake of ordering a simple "People Search Report" from Intelius, advertised at $1.95. Sounds very simple. After doing a search for the person I was looking for, their system lied and said they "Found the person" I was looking for. I gave them my credit card info to make the purchase, I received their "Report". Guess what! There was nothing in the Intelius report. No address...no phone number, nothing. So I guess I am not going to get charged right? Wrong! When I received my credit card statement, there was a charge in it for $19.95 from Intelius!! Yes 19.95, TEN TIMES MORE THAN THE $1.95 THEY HAD ADVERTISED, and FOR NO SERVICE DELIVERED!! I almost missed it among the other charges on my bill - Intelius almost got away with Theft. (As I am sure they make their money from people who don't notice this theft) But it gets worse... THEFT OF PERSONAL INFORMATION BY INTELIUS ======================================= I notified my credit card company of course about this blatant act of THEFT and FRAUD by Intelius, but my ordeal was just beginning. A few days later I noticed my PRIVATE address and phone number was now listed on a web site called phonesbook.com. I was flabbergasted: I had never given this unlisted information to anyone. After spending the time doing some research, it became clear that "phonesbook.com", the mystery website that was giving out my personal unlisted information, belongs to, you guessed it, Intelius!! Furious, I called them up asking them where they got this information and they smugly said they have their sources and assured me that their sources are legit. Yea right, they steal private customer information, sell it and post parts of it it on-line, sounds innocent to me! Next, they offered to "Remove" my information if I faxed them my Driver's License! Yea right I said, so I am going to fax you thieves my License (with Photo ID, Address, D/L Number etc.) so that you can sell my picture along with D/L number to every crook in the country as part of your "Enhanced Background Check" right? I gave them another chance to remove the information voluntarily and the moron on the phone smugly refused repeating that the only way was for me to fax them my Driver's license. I promptly told Intelius that their actions will have consequences...and here it is: my Intelius/phonesbook.com ripoff report. This report will remain on-line until I have been compensated for damages (Which stand now at $15,000) as well as wasted time ($1,400 so far). Let it be very clear that Intelius was given an opportunity to correct themselves for their multiple acts of Theft, Fraud and Data Theft and they refused... |
