Ideal Moving & Storge 300 East 78th Street Lied, Misled, Damaged our things, Don't return calls New York, New York |

Among the many complaints about Ideal Moving & Storage, the one that brought the most distress was the failure of the Next Day Delivery that was promised. Ideal picked up all our belongings on 7/31/11 (note: later than the time we scheduled) in Woodbury, NY and was supposed to deliver our stuff on 8/1/11 to Midlothian, VA. Not only is it in writing that we would receive our items on 8/1/11, but I verbally confirmed it with the head mover just before he left and he assured me he would be there 8/1/11. Around 12:00pm on 8/1, my husband called I deal to get a status. We received the "run-around" from our Moving Consultant. She wasn't able to provide a clear answer as to where our belongings were and why they hadn't been delivered as promised. Finally, she told us our truck had not even left New York yet. She wanted to further investigate and call us back. From 8/1-8/3 we were consistently promised call backs and never heard from her or the owner (as promised) until we ourselves would call back. To make a long story short, our personal belongings, everything we own, were not delivered until 8/3/11. Our original estimate, dated 5/25 was $1637.30. While I do understand estimates can change, my husband called our moving consultant on 7/27/11, just days before we moved, to inform her that our box count was higher than we estimated and we would like to know how much more we would be paying. She assured my husband that it wasn't a big deal, maybe a "couple hundred more." With this in mind, we expected to pay about $1900. After the movers packed out their truck, the man in charge informed us that our fee was now $3820. Completely shocked, we expressed that this was way more money than we expected. He didn't seem to care though. He insisted that we pay $2620. by credit card before he left and $1000, the balance, in cash upon delivery. Our moving consultant previously told my husband that we only had to pay half on pick-up and the remaining upon delivery. The mover would not accept this. Due to the fact that all of our stuff was packed in the truck and ready to go, we decided to transfer the money from our Savings into our Checking Account and pay with our debit card. This transaction almost depleted our savings account, leaving us with $371 to our name. We had to borrow $500 each from both of our parents because we obviously could not pay the balance of $1000. Upset and frustrated, we left and didn't arrive to Virginia until 3:00am 8/1/11, when initially we were supposed to be there about 7:00pm 7/31. Upon delivery, we paid $400 (as opposed to $1000), a price negotiated with the owner after finally reaching him on the phone. As our possessions were being brought up to our new apartment, we discovered that our coffee table had been completely ruined and a huge dent was found in our dining room table. A couple of small glass and ceramic items were broken as well, but I know this can happen during a move in general. From start to finish, working with Ideal Moving and Storage has been a complete nightmare. We were horribly misled and horribly mistreated. We have been trying to get some of our money back and file claims for our damages, but we keep getting the run-around. |
