I very well maintain several of the vehicles in my household. I recently visited the South Portland location of Prompto Oil for a quick and easy oil change service. After driving into the bay, I explained to the mechanic that I only wanted the oil changed and air pressure checked in the tires, and nothing else. As the folks were beginning to work on the car, a VW, in an effort to make the stay as quick as possible, I attempted to pay for the work. I was advised by the assistant manager that the work needed to be finished before paying just in case anything else turned up that needed fixing. I informed him that the car recently had its wipers repaced, the car was washed/cleaned inside and out only moments before and that I wanted nothing else done to the car. He asked which car I drove, he then advised that there would be a $5.00 surcharge for the oil filter claiming that my VW takes a "special" filter. I told him then I don't want the work done and I beleive he was only attemting to gain a larger sale. The assistant manager, Keith McLaughlin then flew off the handle and told me that if I didn't like the service there, I could take my car somewhere else. Mr. McLaughlin began using profanities and began shouting out to his employees . It took a fellow employee to calm him down and advised me that it was not necessary to charge the $5.00 surcharge. Had I not stood up for myself, I would have been taken for the money as I am sure many do when having their car serviced there. I attempted to contact Prompto Oil's corporate office to file a complaint without avail. There is no indication on their website to find this information. The only record on file is the owner of the property EIC, Inc. Wayne Kuegal, 70 Scott Drive, Westbrook, ME 04092. Prompto Oil is promptly off my list of places to do business any longer. |
