I used TMS (Transnational Moving Services) run by Emily Grubbs in planning my move from Indianapolis IN to Northern California. I contracted with Grubbs in writing on June 9, 2011. From other complaints on line, I see that she has also run companies under the name of Worldwide Movers, as only one of her "companies." I signed the contract/estimate and credit card forms provided by TMS. Those were both faxed and US mailed back to Grubbs's company. I have a confirmation email that the items were received by TMS. I was given Tera and Jackie as my contact and dispatcher respectively. Approximately a week prior to my move date of July 9 in Indianapolis, I received word no driver had yet been found. By then, I had bought non-refundable tickets in CA to IN, rented a car, and found a place to stay in order to meet TMS's driver on July 9. In fact, I scheduled all of this around TMS and their driver.
The night before or July 8, TMS dispatcher still had no driver for my move. I had informed TMS that I had to remove my things from storage or incur additional costs for storage. Up and through 6 p.m. July 8, I had no driver and then, the company turned on their answering machine and left for the weekend.
At the last minute I had to hire another company in town at twice the cost. I never heard back from TMS, Emily Grubbs or the dispatcher. That is until I filed a complaint with the BBB and Angie's List. To make a long story short, Grubbs told both the BBB and Angie"s List I did not sign a contract and their efforts to contact me went unsuccessful. I realized then I was dealing with a pathological liar as I had copies of the signed forms which showed I had contracted with TMS.
I also notified the AMAS, a company in Virginia which regulates how moving/storage companies conduct business. Emily Grubbs also told them I didn't return signed documents. AMAS now has copies of the signed contract/credit card forms and have reopened the investigation into my complaint. The BBB also has the documents Grubbs said I never provided her.
Please, if you have been scammed by Emily Grubbs under ANY company name, file a complaint with the BBB, Angie's List, and AMAS (American Movers and Storage) in VA. Further, go on line and read some of the complaints logged against the various 3 or 4 companies owned by Emily Grubbs. In some cases movers' belonging were damaged, stolen, and no insurance claims were addressed. There is also a history of contracting with Grubbs' and no driver showing up. Some folks have lost their deposits in the process or extorted for more money with the threat of holding onto people's home property. (called hostage)
Emily Grubbs gives Kaufman, Crandall, Houston, and Dallas as cities of work, residence. She has worked for an insurance company, so is knowledgable about the workings of how insurance claims/fraud works. |
