HomeAway Pat Braverman Security Deposit Fraud Hamptons, New York |
17th of Mar, 2011 by User915697 |
I rented this residence ih Hampton Bays through HomeAway for thanksgiving last year. The owner was organized at first and, having agreed upon a price, I proceeded to deposit the agreed rent and personally gave her the security deposit upon arrival. The stay was pleasant and we did not break anything. Having departed the residence, the owner stopped taking our calls/answering our mails and text messages. She has refused to return the security deposit or offer any explanation as to why she might be entitled to keep it. I have made HomeAway aware of our situation, but have gotten nothing more than excuses from them. They take the trouble to explain why they are not liable, but haven't done anything to protect their users from this person! The property is still listed and the owner still uses the same number! (I sometimes call from another line and she picks up). |

AVOID AT ALL COST!! I want to warn all of you of this scam artist. Here is my story:
I stood at her property for a long 4 day weekend with a couple of my close friends. She was very sweet in the beginning. The set up and organization went great, we paid the deposit as well as all money owed for the next 4 days. She asked that we deposit the payment for the 4 day stay as well as the deposit into her account 2 weeks prior to our stay, so she can make sure the payment clears. Being a Business Owner myself, it did raise a red flag because even at a regular hotel they ask for only deposit upfront but not the whole stay. Since we were excited and we trusted this lady because she was so nice to us that we went ahead and paid everything in full.
On the first day of our stay she Ms. Patricia Braverman provided us with the keys to the South Hampton house. We we’re so excited that we could finally wind down and relax. We all began to get comfortable everything after that up until the day of check was went well.
Red Flag #2, she advertises a 6 bedroom villa. When we arrived and after looking around we realized that the Villa is actually a 5 bedroom because the 6th bedroom is actually an attic with two separate SINGLE beds and NO hot water, closets, dressers, or even a DOOR to the bathroom!! How can we consider this a 6th bedroom?
On the day of our check out the owner Ms. Patricia Braverman who has our deposit was supposed to come to the home and check the property to make sure there we’re no damages and then provide us with the deposit back. She said she will not be able to make it, so we asked, seeing as no hourly rate was mentioned in the Lease Agreement which we signed (See Attached) we wanted to make sure that there would be no extra charges. She responded, “It is fine I don’t have any reservations after you so you can stay longer.” We figured, that’s great because we we’re in no rush to get back home. She said just to text her when we we’re leaving, which we did.
The next day I received a long email with “invoices” showing the brake down of why our deposit will not be returned as well as a paper asking to forward a check to her for an additional $50 something dollars. When trying to get more information on why our deposit will not be returned and trying to get the owner Ms. Patricia Braverman to elaborate on the additional charges, she told me to stop contacting her before she files for harassment, after 2 phone calls might I add. (See attached all of the “invoices” she sent to me as well as the Lease Agreement).
Now keep in mind people I am a business owner, so this is definitely NOT about the money but the fact that, this home owner Ms. Patricia Braverman thinks it is ok to Rip Off people who are spending their money to stay in this place so in the end be told that there deposit will not be returned for whatever reason. After not receiving my deposit back, I decided to do a little research of my own. So after doing my research I found that there other reports written about Ms. Patricia Braverman FOR THE SAME ISSUE. After that I contacted a couple of people who we’re also victim of the Security Deposit hold. They too we’re very disappointed because the place is beautiful but who will want to stay again after being ripped off the first time. There is no reason why the Home Owner should have stoop so low just to make a couple extra bucks.
Please people AVOID AT ALL COST!! |
