Hewitt Associates
Hewitt Associates Retiree Medical Reimbursement Denial, Internet
26th of Jun, 2011 by User895191
An ObamaCare outrage: My daughter has Alopecia Universalis. She has lost all of her hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and leg hair as a result of this disease. To help her to maintain a somewhat normal life experience, we have had her eyebrows cosmetically tattooed and purchased many different types of wigs. Prior to our claim through Hewitt, my husbands Retiree Medical Reimbursement Account manager, I have submitted all my daughters claims through my own flexible reimbursement plan. However, since the cost of the most recent cranial prosthetic (or custom wig made for my daughters head) was more than my flexible reimbursement covered, I submitted the remaining cost $2563.52 to Hewitt (my husbands spending plan) for reimbursement on 4/15/2011. I submitted a letter from the doctor, a prescription for the item, and the bill from the company from which we purchased the custom cranial prosthetic wig. After receiving the first denial for the item, I called multiple times to find out finally that I needed to submit a statement of medical necessity form (which reiterated the information ALREADY submitted in the letter and prescription from the doctor). This is a new ObamaCare requirement for things like this. I submitted the statement of medical necessity (SOMN) and resubmitted the claim. The claim was denied a second time because the SOMN needed to say that my daughter has a mental health issue created by the Alopecia. After correcting and resubmitting the claim this way,
I submitted it a third time. I was informed this time that the claim was denied a third time because Alopecia isn't a disease (THAT IS JUST BULLCRAP). Each time I have spent hours on the phone trying to talk to a person that can tell me what the denial reason is and have been shuffled around in circles over and over. This company is a pathetic disgrace and I am looking to try and get a lawyer and the media involved. This is OUR money and providing a wig to an 18 1/2 young girl is an absolute medical necessity for which we would not be harassed. She has no choice about losing her hair.
