Healthquest Dr. Sol Cogan Use of DRX spinal decompression and similar machine for compressed dick and lower back pain Farmington Hills, Michigan |

In response to an advertisement for X-rays and evaluation for my back pain. No drug or even Controlled substance could alleviate my pain. I was evaluated by Dr. Sol Cogan and he showed me a copy of a 2 year old MRI of my back (X-ray cannot show the actual disk.) which clearly revealed a compressed disc and possible pinched nerve. He stated that surgery, which involves removal of the disc and fusion of the spine at that point. He stated that the surgery is only 40% effective. He stated that with machinery he had, that the disc is slowly decompressed and the blood and water in the disc are replaced. This methodology would be at least 60% effective and that it could possibly achieve 100%. It involved some 20-22 treatments. I agreed having had some previous positive experiences with Chiropractors. I was told that the cost would be $4600 (discounted if a complete payment is made. We were able to get $3,000 on (GE Capital-"Care Credit) with allowance to pay the balance in about a month. I charge the balance to a charge card. (He did state that some Chiropractic treatment accompanying the treatment does occur, but he would not charge me for it as I mentioned that finances were tight and my only income was from early Social Security. I had hoped to be able to get some full or part time work). Note: Per each visit a filled in a computer program to indicate location, pain level, duration, frequency...This is viewed by attending Chiropractor. I started the same day. As I progressed the pain decreased. After many treatments, I was evaluated. Dr. Cogan checked my leg strength, but there were no X-ray check of my back. I had a minor stroke halfway through which affected my balance only. After the hiatus (hospitalization), I returned to HealthQuest. The pain level was the same until a few treatments later it began to increase. I reported this to the attending Chiropractor and he said nothing, but the Chiropractor assigned to my case said to use ice packs (Which are used after treatments and after I perform assigned exercises.) At the completion of actually 27 of the treatments, I was reevaluated for leg strength again and told I was finished with the treatments. I mentioned that I was confused that I was still in pain. I was instructed to come twice a month for a level 2 adjustment at $67 each. I told Dr. Cogan that was too much and he stated that once monthly for a level 1 adjustment. I attended one which was a 5 minute "adjustment" and stated once again that I was in pain. I wrote a letter to Dr. Cogan and met with him. He mentioned that my final report indicated an improvemnt. Yes, It was improved over the time that I first came in 2/10 compared to 4/10 (pain level), but was worse at our meeting 5/10 and getting worse. His attitude was that he gave me Chiropractic treatments free and that the initial agreement signed had a no guarantee clause. His attitude was poor and he kept 'harping' on the final report, free Chiropractic treatments...His only comment was to pass me some pain doctor he knows. The was no concern or notes about my complaints about returning pain. I believe that this is a rip off when there is no concern, except financial to (a) patient(s). |
