This is a copy of my letter to Susan L. Castaneda, Director, The Hartford. When I called the Hartford requesting a "quote" for auto insurance, at no time did the agent notify me that a credit check, a driver's license check and other factors would be used to measure my insurance risk. I simply wanted a quote. The letter that I received from the Hartford states that "the consumer reporting agencies listed below did not make any decisions concerning your premium and payment options and are unable to provide you with specific reasons for their decisions." Your letter further states "We look at credit history information along with a number of other factors to help us measure your insurance risk: this information does not necessarily reflect your credit worthiness." Yet you state "The following factor from your credit report had the most significant influence on your insurance score. You then list four derogatory statements that were made using my credit report as a basis for these statements. 1. Your statements about credit reports are confusing and contradictory. 2. You failed to list in your letter the "other factors" that were used to determine my insurance score. 3. Your did not list a formula or a "List of standards" that were used to justify the derogatory remarks that appeared in the letter. 4. Your agent failed to tell me about all of this during the phone interview. I received this information in your letter, which is"after the fact." Because of this deception that was used by your agent, I am filing a complaint with the Hartford BBB and AARP. Your speak of trust in your letter, but it is apparent to me that you don't pratice what you preach.
