h.i.m. Ltd.
misleading job advertisement
12th of Jun, 2012 by Aishlinn
I received a call from a recruitment agency called 'Laspo' offering to interview me for a marketing and research role for a company called H.I.M. Ltd. Mr. Steven Cook, the 'recruiter' told me that unfortunately H.I.M.'s website was under maintenance so I would not be able to find them if I googled them. How convenient! He told me that I didn't need any experience because the company had over 20 years of training people for the job and would therefore be happy to provide full training. I asked him if he could send me the job specifications in the email and he got a bit huffy and said that he had already told me it's a marketing and research job, I would make £300 a week etc.. So I agreed to go to the interview and awaited his email. When I got his email I found it strangely unprofessional in that he had not actually written me anything in the email, he had just attached a file providing me with details to the address of the interview with no company heading or anything. When I searched the address of the interview (106 London Street, Reading, RG1 4SJ) I could not find any trace of the company which had supposedly existed for more than 20 years. I started to get quite suspicious and so I googled the recruitment agency and find no trace of them either, except for various marketing job ads they had posted all over the South of England on job websites. I googled 'marketing job scam' and came up with various examples of marketing jobs which are basically pyramid door2door selling, only on a commission basis. I was in no way interested in this sort of job so I emailed the guy straight and asked him if it would be a door2door job and whether his recruitment agency had a website. I have to hand it to Mr. Cook, he at least had the smallest bit of honesty that he told me it WAS indeed a door2door job, on a commission basis, with a 'retainer' for coming in every day (whatever that is!) but he failed to answer my question regarding Laspo's website which confirmed my suspicion. Of course, I declined straight away and will not be going to the interview. I wanted to warn people about these sort of jobs in case they may be wasting their times with interviews without having the full facts, which I could have easily done myself. Usually these people will not tell you it's a door2door job until the 2nd interview where they will get you do to a 'trial' run during which you will not get paid. This is one of the ways they gets their buck off people. So in conclusion, don't be lured in by these commission based jobs, you will not having any rights as an employee and you will not receive any sickness or holiday pay. In order to make the amount of money advertised, you will have to work ridiculously long hours for little return.

Thanks

I experienced the exact same thing today. I got through to laspo recruitment after seeing an advert in my local newspaper in brighton about a tele marketer job. the recruitment guy explained how it was a call centre job. I also researched the company and couldnt find much about it and came across this misleading job advertisment report. even though i read it i decided to go anyway as i had nothing to lose. after an hour and a half at the 'interview' which involved this idiot talking continuously about irrelevant rubbish and didnt actually explain what the job is. when i asked him what is this job his response was 'i thought i made it clear' my reply was this is door to door selling isnt it? i told him that this was not the job i had been told about and that i had seen on the internet that this was a misleading job but still came anyway, he told me he had no idea how that had happened (obviously lying). basically if you dont want to waste 2 hours of your life listening to an idiot dont go

I have an interview at the Reading offices for this job tomorrow morning, I am 16 and this is my first interview. I don't particularly want to waste 2 hours on an interview that doesn't provide any relevant information or even a job. From the guy i talked to on the phone, I got the idea I would be getting companies to fill out questionnaires either in the town centre or via phone. I read about it in a local newspaper saying no experience required, so it sounded perfect for a first summer job.
I haven't been able to find out any information about the company online by searching LASPO or H.I.M Limited, this for the last 5 days has panicked me as I was afraid of going to my first interview completely oblivious to what the company even does or stands for.
I can let you know how the interview goes, however I hold no hope from what I have heard about the company. Seems like a complete waste of time.

Hi

I have just recieved a phone call from Laspo Recruitment offering a marketing assitant role in Reading. They have asked me to attend and interview Friday but after reading this I am really confused. Is the company real or is it just a scam??

Also is there no basic pay rate or is it all based on commision?

thanks

You guys do make me laugh. If you actually put half the effort you have into writing these posts into finding a job, you'd probably have a one and not be a drain on everyone around you... including society. The scary thing is you haven't even put the required effort in to get the full details or information needed to help others towards a backed up, evidence based conclusion!! You could at least done that while your bumming around on other peoples hard earned cash (dole) Rather than a pathetic attempt at finding a reason (excuse) to tell everyone why your failing as a human and un-able to find a job.. Yeah yeah we get it 'it's not your fault it's everyone else and everything else's fault' how you guys live with yourselves is beyond me! Grow a pair grab every opportunity and chance that comes your way. If it fails then what have you lost??.. Your not doing anything anyway!!.. What have you gained??.. Experience, lessons, knowledge, confidence a better understanding of things and my god dare I say in PRIDE to hold your head high and say at least I did whatever it takes!!!

Well well well I have seen that this posts are kind of old. However, I have a job interview tomorrow with Mr Stevens with a company called HCP which it's supposed to stand for Home Choice Promotions Ltda. I better call again to check what this is all about. Thanks for the information.

I got a call from Laspo today. Mr Chris Johnson told me that I could have an interview with a company called HCP in Gravesend and it would be on Tuesday. As I thought it's a proper recruitment agency I said OK and all. But when he sent me the details of the interview, his email was blank and the information was in the detached .doc file which was weird. I did a research on them, their website is unavailable, the company doesn't really have its office in Gravesend so I wrote him back to get some more detail. His email was unprofessional, with lots of mistakes and looked like a teenager wrote it. It read, HPC has their website redone and that's why I can't get any detailed information about them. The fact is, HCP exists and is an international company, which doesn't use agencies and doesn't know any Chris nor Laspo. I worked as a Recruitment Agent and I know how the recruitment process looks like. THIS IS 100% SCAM. Do not give them any details or go to the interview. If they "interview" you, they take your personal details and use them against you, meaning, they steal your identity. I will report this SCAM to all the jobs sites, they advertise at because it's not fair on jobseekers!! Please, be ware and do not even apply for their jobs!!! I repeat, THIS IS 100% SCAM!

I applied for a similar job today via CV Library. Within an hour I got a call back from C.J. where I was told that their 'client', Home Choice Promotion, had a website but it was down for maintenance over the weekend so I wouldn't be able to do any research. Anyone with experience of using the Web will know that Google would at least have a cache/listing for the site whether it was active or under maintenance...

I got a call from Chris Johnson from Laspo a few days ago saying come in for an interview on Thursday so i agreed, after hanging up the phone he sent me this email...

"The company HCP do promotions and marketing campaigns for another company, and your role would mainly involve generating leads, handling any queries or questions people may have, taking people's details, that kind of thing. When I spoke to the manager over at HCP they did say to let candidates know they won't be testing you on your knowledge of the company history or anything, and that they will go through all the details with you, so not to worry about knowing the in's and outs of everything before the interview.

They're also having their website completely redone at the moment, hence the reason you may not be able to find it online.

Hope that helps.

Best of luck at the interview and let us know how you get on"

I immediately thought something sounded dodgy about this and really unprofessional ...so i tried looking up HCP and Laspo but couldn't really find anything..this morning (Thursday) they rang me again and said you have an interview today at 2:30 with Mr Stevens...i found it strange that they were reminding me so i told them no i'm not going to make it and they hung up the phone on me without saying goodbye...obvious scam...i then took a look around on the internet and stumbled upon this site...what a god send this site has been...my advice...do not go with this company!!!
