Grand Discovery Travel What a scam! Fort Mill, South Carolina

After receiving a phone call promising a lap top computer and a one week vacation at a resort hotel of our choice in exchange for our attending their company's presentation, we took the nearly one hour drive to their office. The presentation and strong sales pitch to purchase their vacation plan lasted for nearly 2 hours. Since our son has a similar vacation package plan we decided to give this a try. First we were promised all paperwork by the time we would leave the office. Then we are told it would be mailed in a few days as they were out of stock. Thus, we were asked to sign paperwork stating we had been given paperwork that we actually had not received. It took over a week to actually receive the paperwork. Sales people told us at least 3 times that any hotel listed in their brochure had to give you their discount on top of any other discounts you may have been quoted. You are instructed not to tell the hotel staff that you have the Grand Discovery cards until after you have negotiated the price. What you are NOT told is that the discount only applies to specific hotels, not a hotel chain. Thus, for example, a Hampton Inn in one city may be participating but another Hampton Inn on the other side of the city does not. You must have the brochure to see which specific hotels are participating and which is NOT given to participants. We were asked before leaving what gifts we had been promised. The lap top computer is an EPC--a very cheap Chinese model that would not be beneficial to a child. The one week resort hotel requires the participant to mail in a registeration fee of $50 by certified mail. You are then notified that your first choice must be booked within 90 days after the mail in date of your request, 2nd choice must be within 45 days after the first choice, and 3rd choice is an additional 45 days after the 2nd. Participant must pay any advance fees such as booking fees, registerations fees, taxes, meals, transportation, and holidays and high season weeks are an additional cost. You are notified that these charges may cost as much as $199 per person. There are so many other restrictions that it makes it impossible to utilize it. Grand Discovery's response is that they are not responsible for these problems.
