Geek Squad Data Recovery Hard Drive Data Retreival laptop is a complete scam and nothing more Houston, Texas |

I purchased my laptop from this particular Best Buy about a year ago and was sweet talked into purchasing the additional warranty plan Best Buy and it's Geek Squad partners offer. If anything was to crash or fail on my laptop, I would have it repaired courtesy of them. I should have read the fine print before doing so, cause now all I have is a fixed computer, but all of my data is gone. I don't know how, but out of no where my hard drive in my laptop crashed. I immidiatly brought my notebook to Best Buy/Geek Squad whatever you want to call them in for repair. I was politely told that my warranty only covers my hard drive and they would be glad to provide me with a new one, however should I want my data restored and recovered from the failed drive it was going to cost me since my warranty I purchased from them did not cover such damages. This was never mentioned to me originally. I was angry at this point and wanted to speak with a manager. The manager politely told me there is nothing they could do as those are the terms and services, the conditions which apply to each and every customer and I wasn't any different. He did tell me Geek Squad will be able to help me and for the cost of $149 perform diagnostics and see what needs to be done in order to recover my data. To do this they would require the payment upfront and would ship my hard drive out of state to a certain repair facility. Having no choice and needing my data back I had them go ahead and do it. About 4-5 days later I received A quote. $2600+ it will cost to recover my data. I nearly flipped. I thought I misheard, but no, I heard correctly. The $149 I paid was just for the diagnostics, doesn't offset from the recovery cost. Also the cost of the recovery was nearly twice as expensive as the laptop I purchased from them with an additional 3 year warranty. I am disgusted with the service I received. I had to start all over and recreate anything I can, but most of the information and data has been lost PERIOD. In addition I am out the $149 I paid for the diagnostics. What a B/S sales tactics and unfair towards the consumer. I since then made calls on daily basis to best buy but it's gotten me no where. I strongly suggest backing up your data and not purchasing the warranty plan cause it won't get you anywhere. One pissed off consumer... |
