FLA AC SERVICES AND DUCT AIR SOLUTIONS Complete Scam! Hollywood, Florida |
15th of Oct, 2011 by User962715 |
We responded to an ad claiming to clean all Air Ducts in the house for $69. The ad was in a flyer that comes in the mail every week. My wife had been sneezing and I thought well lets see if the air ducts are dirty. Two guys show up, one a worker and the other a Tech (Salesman). I ask where do they want to start. He says he need to look at the whole house and where the Air Handler is. They split up. I followed one guy and my wife kept an eye on the other. Then they roll in this big blue machine and hook it up to one of the 2 vents we have in the kitchen. It makes a lot of noise. Then the Tech goes upstairs to the air handler and I follow. He looks and says your unit is new. I had a new air handler installed about 1 year ago. He then starts to peel back the tape on the main duct work coming out of the air handler and reaches in and pulls out a small sample from inside. He says I need to talk to you and your wife. We go outside where we can hear and I hat the thought of the other gut roaming around through the house, but I am looking through the sliding glass door the whole time. The tech asks why did you call us? I tell him my wife has been sneezing. He says yes I can see why and shows us this small sample he says he removed from inside our main duct and claims we have mold and the we will get cancer if we do not take care of it. He wants to sell us a UV light for $500 (app) and an anti mold treatment for the inside of the duct work that will seal the fiberglass, so we don't have fiberglass blowing all around giving us cancer. He wants another $500 (appr) for that service. I said let me research this on the internet. I went upstairs and saw that many people had been reporting this type of scam all over the country and in particular in Florida. I came back and told him that we would not take him up on his offer right now. Immediately he got defensive and wanted to know what I read online. I repeated that we were not interested in upgrading the service and just wanted to have the ducts cleaned according to the ad. He got a little more persistent and I continued to refuse the upgrade. He immediately motioned to the other worker to cut the machine and he removed it. I said aren't you going to clean all of the ducts and he said it wasn't necessary that the machine was so powerful that one vent would do it. I took him at his word and wanted him out of the house. I paid him and he made one more attempt to sell me the upgrades at a total of $700 (approx). Again I said no and he left the house in a huff. After they left, my wife and I felt like we had almost been scammed and we're furious at their behavior. I looked at the vent they had hooked their machine to (which is 1 of 2 vents in the kitchen) and saw that they NEVER opened the vent for the cleaning! I had always kept that vent closed because it made the kitchen too cold. My wife asked are you sure? I opened the vent and there was some dust on the inside. It hadn't been cleaned. Not even the vent where the machine was hooked up. Upon further inspection I saw the fiberglass duct work was lines with plastic. Why would it have had to been sealed with this supposed treatment? I immediately called my credit card company and reported the incident. They reversed the charges. Now one month later the company is trying to re-bill me saying I signed a No Refund clause. I am going to fight this again and I am going to do my part to make sure that these guys are not scamming seniors with health problems with their Non Service and phony products. I researched the UV light they wanted to sell for $500 and I saw prices ranging from $37 - $200 online. STAY AWAY FROM THESE ADS! They are a scam to get inside your door and then use FEAR TACTICS (cancer). How these guys live with themselves is beyond me. |
