Fifth Third Bank--Louisville, Kentucky. Fleecing anybody for a buck! Internet, Internet
11th of Jun, 2012 by User627028
I recently took a check from a customer drawn on 5/3 bank. I tried to call to verify funds since it was Sunday and all the branch locations were closed. After going through the automated system, I finally got the "number" to call for funds verification. It gave me 1-900-733-5353. Considering the "900" numbers usually have a hefty charge to use, I called the customer care number back just to make sure I didn't hear the number wrong. Nope, it is a 900 number. Given the fact that I, as many of us do, have a cell as my only phone, I cannot utilize this service. So, I called customer care Monday morning. I finally got to a "person" and questioned the "900" number. She checked to see if there was an alternate number. She informed me that was the only number, a"900" number. The kicker??? There is a $5 charge to use it. I explained that I only have a cell phone. She stayed my carrier might be blocking "900" numbers. Ummm, yeah, ya think? I am not even sure you can remove that block. That's not even the point. With all the small businesses out there utilizing cell phones they offer a "900" number and charge you to use it??? Oh, but let me inconvenience you a bit more! You can come in to any of our branches and they can help you. Ok, let's see about this theory. You would rather me tie up a human representative in your branch where your customers actually took the time to come to you than allow me to call a "800" number to verify funds as a non customer? Shame on you 5/3. Not only do you fleece your customers but any potential, as well!! Of I were even considering using this as my bank, there is no way on earth, now! Customers and non-customers alike all pay $5 to verify funds. Can you imagine how costly that can be for companies that regularly accept checks with amounts large enough for verifying?? This "Good Old Boy" way of thinking is why people just can't win. What's next, a "900" number customer care?? Because you could go to the bank instead of call customer care! Wonder how much the have to bend their customers over to afford their CEO with all his perks?? I think it's about time society stands up to these places that just keep digging deeper in the pockets of people for any nickel they "think" they can find a way to justify by boycotting their services! The decision to deregulate banking was a decision that should have gotten someone tared and feathered....and removed from office! We all pay the price for the "Good Old Boy" way of thinking with all the robbing Peter to pay Paul! Bottom line, if you value the money you work for each week, find a financial institution that values your money and/or, your presence more. After all, it "is" your money and you " do" have a choice!!
