My Experience at Extreme Fitness Pickering.
It all started in November when I received a number of free passes from an Extreme Fitness promo team telling me I could go try the gym at any time I want. I decided to take my friend who was also interested in joining a gym to Extreme Fitness Pickering.
They accepted our passes and let us come work out but as soon as we were done we were immediately thrown into a high pressure sales situation in the gyms office. We both made it clear that we did not want to commit to anything right now and that we were just trying the facilities. After forty-five minutes of different sales people trying to convince we finally had enough and left.
A week later my friend gets a call from Extreme Fitness saying that theyve picked his name out of a draw and hes won 30 days free. A bit skeptical because he never entered a draw we decide to go back again any way to see what was really going on. This time we are met by the sales manager Jean Legris who again brought us to the office and began very high pressure sales tactics. He went on to explain that we can only redeem the free 30 days that we won by signing up for a year long membership. After explaining to him that both of us live outside Pickering and that it would not be ideal for us to join a gym there he insisted numerous times that we at least sign up try the first month and go from there.
What harm could signing up to try a gym really do? We both reluctantly signed up, putting both our names under my credit card. No payments were to be paid until after the first month of us trying out the facilities. That was the deal, everyone seemingly agreed to it.
Two weeks into our supposedly free month of trial we decided that the location just wasnt working for us. I went to Jean and told him thanks for the trial but we wont be continuing at this gym and to please take our names out of the system. Jean suddenly was too busy, telling me to e-mail him both our names and he will take us out of the system immediately.
Almost two months go by and I get my credit card statement in the mail, strangely enough I have two charges from Extreme Fitness Pickering. I e-mail Jean telling him and he replies shortly after saying that the problem is fixed and he has issued a refund already.
Another month passes and not only do I notice that I havent received a refund but Ive also been charged twice for another month of use, another $105. A little frustrated at this point I contact Jean again by e-mail. Jean states he is looking into the problem and I should get both refunds shortly, he also says me and my friend are off the membership list and will not be billed anymore.
Still with some faith in Jean and Extreme Fitnesss honesty I sat on my hands and waited for the refund he supposedly sent. It never came. In fact I was hit again with two membership fees for another month, bringing the total to over $300 on my credit card.
At this point Jean had became conveniently too busy to answer my e-mails and my only option was to go to Visa and plead my case. After weeks of waiting I received credits to my account for the months Extreme Fitness billed. However to this day, almost six months later, Extreme Fitness Pickering is STILL charging my credit card. The headache persists as Visa continues to credit these rogue billings of my card.
From high pressure sales situations, to bogus contest prizes, to free trials, to hundreds of dollars on my credit card for no reason, and a manager who would rather take advantage of people showing interest than to sign up clients in an honest legit way, Extreme Fitness goes to the extreme in more than just fitness. |
