i recently went on expedia.com to look for a hotel in the pike place district of seattle. i specified that location in the search and it showed up in the search. i will be working in that area and it is important that my room is close by. it showed me many hotel options in that area and they tempted me with a hidden name hotel at an attractive price in the pike place area and with a 3 1/2 star rating. they dont tell you the name of the hotel until you pay for it and agree to the non cancelation policy, but the area and star rating are stated. i paid with my credit card and checked the agree box then they immediately sent me my hotel confirmation showing me the name and address of the hotel. the hotel is the silver cloud hotel at the stadium. the location is 1-2 miles from the pike place area. the pike place area is well defined by checking it's boundries on google. even in expedia's own description of the hotel they state the location to be within 2 miles of pike place. within 2 miles of pike place is not in pike place. i couldnt see that info until i knew which hotel they were giving me. you are either in pike place district or you are not in pike place district. this hotel is not in pike place district! i called the hotel immediately and asked them if they were in the pike place area and they said no they are south of the pioneer square area but they have a shuttle that can take you to other areas. i told her that i will be working in the pike place area and need to cancel my room or be transferred to the pike place area. she said she could not do anything for me because i booked with expedia. i called expedia and waited on hold for at least 1/2 hour and they told me absolutely no cancellations or refunds. i sent them numerous emails to different departments and they said the same thing. i have spent a total of about 3 hours on hold with expedia since them trying to get them to admit that the hotel they gave me was in the wrong area and to cancel my reservation. no luck, no customer service, seems they dont take any responsibility for misrepresentation. i believe that they say it is in the much more desirable pike place area just to suck you in and then they stick you where they feel like sticking you and stand behind there bullst, iron clad, no cancellation policy. last resort, i called my credit card company and they said they cant do a dispute because i went to the expedia website and agreed to their policy before paying. the charge shows up on my credit card statement as final, no refunds. i called the hotel back today and spoke with the manager to let her know that she needs to contact expedia and tell them to stop misleading people about the location of their hotel and if she is not willing to do so, then the hotel is co conspiring to deceive customers. she said she was sorry for the error but there was nothing she could do for me but she looked forward to my arrival. i told her that i would be throwing my $370 reservation in the garbage and staying in the pike place area where i need to stay. i have used priceline many times to book this same trip for a pike place hotel and it has always worked out well. hotel has been as described and in the proper location. expedia takes no responsibility for inaccurate information and that tells me that they are misleading people on purpose. tricky, tricky! never again expedia |
