Enterprise Car Rental Enterprise uses the internet to rip you off Ashland, Kentucky |

I rented a car from Enterprise on the phone to go around 150 miles max (round trip with allowances for going to Walmarts) for a neighbor's graduation. We rented it for pick up at 8 am on a Friday. Since they closed at 5 pm we didn't want to drop it off with no one there to watch it. So we agreed to bring it back on Sat. before they closed at noon.
They charged us for 2 days at $75.99 a day. With fees & everything it came to $162.62.That was supposedly with even my roadside assistance & enterprise card. I wasn't real happy with the rate considering we'd only have it for 26 hrs. 12 of which would be sitting in front of our house waiting for the place to open up Saturday. But this graduation was important and it would have taken too much time to pick one up at the airport. I asked the girl if she was sure this was all I needed, several times. The complete total. She reassured me it was as long as I reserved it while we were on the phone. So I took it.
W-e-l-l I got there Fri. morning and was told right off the bat that often insurance, AAA, etc. won't pay the full amount & you get stuck with a high deductible. But I could get full coverage (I just had basic liability on my own cars) for only $20. My rental wasn't there so they said they'd upgrade me to a Ford Explorer. Then he told me I could replace the gas used myself, pay them $4.80 a gallon or if I pre-paid it's be only $3. a gallon.
So I brought the car back in as good of shape as it left in and discovered they wanted to charge me $251.13. That's when I found out that $20. coverage was per day. So that upped the bill $20. more than I was expecting.
Then they told me when I got the gas at $3. a gallon I was buying the WHOLE tank and there was no refunds for gas left in it. The attendent knew we were only going 58 miles & back. The new guy said it clearly explained on the front desk what the gas cost & about refunds. Except when I had picked it up the worker had called me over from the door then led me behind the front desk & around the other side to go out. So I don't know if it was there or not. I only know my husband & I both heard him say if you prepay for it from them it's only $3. a gallon. Nothing about buying the whole tank full.We would have siphoned it if we knew that.
He said he couldn't change what they had done on the phone or the gas. But about that times several people came in wanting to rent a car as did the guy that sold me the $3. a gallon gas & I pointed him out & made a little fuss (not good when you have lots of customers) & the guy doing my return agreed to lower the gas. But never called the other guy over. That particular car gets 28 MPG & we were mostly on the highway. Yet they charged $27. for what ended up to be 134 miles. So we paid around $5.60 a gallon. They never gave me my pink receipt back & I was so upset I forgot to ask for it. They also never itemized the amount spent on gas. They just gave me the total of $27.
I will never use this place again. If they are only open for 3 hrs. on Sat. why was I charged an extra day unless I wanted to leave it unguarded until Mon.? If a rental is for exactly 24 hrs. they could have told us & we would have rented it at 9 & brought it back at 9 the next day. At maximum I should have only been charged for half a day since they are only open less than half a day.
It's a shame I have morals, ethics & strength of character. Otherwise I could open a business like Enterprise, charge $10 bucks less a day & still make a killing. If it's a family owned business then evidently their rep means nothing.
