In early February, around the 3rd, I was browsing E-bay for a used land rover and came across one being offered by Rick owner of elite imports and suvs. Called him up and immediately struck a deal. The car in his description was as clean as they come, and the pictures on e-bay confirmed this. Couple of minor things that he assured me would be taken care of. He promised to have it shipped within 4-7 days. The car did not make it to my address until last week of February. 20 days later. Rick promised me he would return half of the $600 shipping cost. When I went out to greet the carrier, he immediately made me aware that my car was leaking oil the whole trip up from Texas on his new $50,000 corvettes below. The minor issues that he promised to take care of were also left undone. There was also a 5 inch whole n the back seat fabric. This was hidden in the e-bay pictures. Upon starting the car, the check engine light came on. I immediately called rick and he told me to take it to my mechanic to get diagnosed. It was diagnosed with a blown head gasket, $2,300 job. Upon learning of this, Rick told me he would have the car shipped back, and he would send a refund. He then offered to pay for half of the repairs, which I obviously said no too. The check engine light was a completely separate issue that was not even diagnosed at the time. It took Rick another month to get his car. He flew an employee down to pick up the car and promised to have a check in hand at the exchange. Upon arriving the employee had no funds for me-I called Rick and he said he now needed to have car on his lot before he could cut me a check. It took 2 days to get car returned, but another 2 weeks before only partial funds were returned- I cut Rick a check for originally for over $8,200, and he only returned $6,200. I now know why he wanted the car back before returning my $. He explained to me that his mechanics looked at the car and found nothing wrong with the car and so he said I would be responsible for all shipping costs to and from including the $85 to detail the car on return and the $15 return wire fee. I have a letter from the shipping company confirming the oil leak and the written diagnoses of the problem head gasket and separate issue of the engine light. I spent over $1,800 on a rental because I had no car to drive for the 2 month period and $150 on the diagnoses. Obviously I feel like I am owed a complete refund, but I went as far as offering to pay for half of shipping and he refused. I called my attorney and he advised not pursuing this via the courts unless I was willing to spend $20-$40,000. My goal is no longer to recoup any of the money. My hope is to get as many people to read and pass this info on to their friends. Please pass on- I am also a business owner and can not imagine treating a customer in this fashion. Buyer be very aware-please-thank you |
