Dishonest Job Posting
29th of Feb, 2012 by anoninri
I was contacted by Elite Consulting regarding the resume I posted to careerbuilder.com. The woman told me they were very interested in setting up an interview for their entry-level Account Manager position. I agreed and my interview was scheduled the very next day. Upon arrival nothing seemed out of the ordinary, there were a few other professionally dressed people there awaiting their interview. The actual interview process took less than 10 minutes, it may have even been closer to 5. Virtually no information about the actual job was given, and I was told I would be contacted later that day to set up a 2nd interview if they were interested.

Sure enough, no more than 2 hours after leaving their offices I received a telephone call congratulating me. It was a Wednesday, and pretty late in the day so the woman let me know they would call me in the morning to set up a time for Friday. I waited all morning, no call. Finally around noon I called them, asking specifics on the second interview. Right away the woman sounded frazzled. It was then she let me know it would be a 6.5 hour job shadowing, beginning at 1pm on Friday and ending at 7:30pm. This concerned me, but I need work, and I figure it's worth it if they hire me. But I still had a few questions. I asked the woman what exactly I would be doing during this job shadowing. I was told I would be paired up with an 'Account Manager' and shown around the office a bit, then head out to, and I quote, "meet with clients."

Let me tell you, if you're interviewing for an entry-level position and the company tells you you'll be "meeting with clients", that is a gigantic red flag. If you don't know what "meet with clients" means, it means "ride around the city with a complete stranger knocking on doors trying to sell things to people". The job was a door-to-door salesman position.

After she finished her poorly rehearsed drivel, I pressed her further, forcing her to elaborate. "You mean leaving the building?" I asked, "Y-yeah! And you don't have to worry about transportation and the 'Manager' will even treat you to lunch!" Well isn't that sweet. No thanks. I immediately let them know I was no longer interested in their position and hung up.

The bottom line is these people are vultures. They prey on the vulnerably unemployed like myself and attempt to manipulate them into a job they did not sign up for. This job would have been 100% commission without travel expenses. A stark contrast to what was represented to me numerous times before and during the interview process. These scams are happening across the country, I only wish more people were aware of them.

Thank you for this information. I, too submitted my resume to Elite Consulting recently. I have yet to set up an interview because their website looked extremely disturbing with little actual information, and large words meant to confuse those that do not understand their meanings, yet look professional. As an unemployed, yet full-time Criminal Justice student, I knew I needed to do some research. I will not be calling them back for my "interview". Thanks again!

This helped me a lot. I am a recent graduate and I too am looking for a job. I am looking to move up north and I received a call from "Elite Consulting" after submitting a resume on career builder. The rep. told me he read over my resume and wanted to schedule an interview and wondered when I could come in. If he had actually read my resume he would have known I lived in Florida. That was my red flag that this place was cheaply gilded.

Same exact thing happened to me - these people are frauds and i wouldn't doubt if theyre doing much worse than just being door to door sales people. When I arrived for my interview it was extremely unprofession: music blasting in the waiting area, people dressed inappropriately, questions regarding my personal life during the interview, even being told that "beautiful people like me should be getting jobs easily" these people are ridiculous and im not sure what theyre doing to stay in business.

I wish I had read this before I even committed to an interview. Beware -- huge scam. The hiring manager wanted me to go door-to-door selling Verizon bundles to consumers using a different provider. Needless to say, I did not return back for a second interview because I was not about to spend my whole day walking around the city in the freezing cold. The starting salary was $300/week...that is your base. Then there was a 25% commission bonus on top of that; however, the rate is so high because the likelihood of selling is so low. How can a "legitimate" company offer you that little?! That's $7.50/hr & $15.6K/year before taxes. What shocked me most was what the hiring manager said to me as he was trying to sell me the position: "You don't even need to speak English very well in order to be good here. It's that easy." I'm sorry, but I did not spend 4 years at an accredited college to work at a place like this. I don't want easy -- I want challenging and rewarding. No clue why a Fortune 100 company would want to outsource to such a scam. Don't let the website or job description fool you.
