Late December 2010, Deanna Robinson, my terminally ill mother (Chronic lymphositic leukemia), was involved in a semi-minor accident, resulting in the totaling of her 2002 ford focus. She was handled fairly by her insurance company, and recieved a check for around 4100.00. She was looking for a replacement, and was refferred to "John" by his ex wife, who Deanna worked with, before being forced into early retirement by her health. I believe it was Dec 24th that she gave him a check for 4135.00 with 2005 ford focus written on th "for" portion at the bottom of the check. His story was; " the car is in Seattle, and I"m working on getting it shipped " leaving an expectation that it would be soon. When after a few weeks passed, and we first started becoming suspicious that something was wrong. (mom lives with myself and my seven yr old son) She called him and inquired as to what the hold up was. His reply was worrisome. (paraphrasing) he said that tthe "2004 focus" was stuck in california, and on stand by waiting for a space on a truck to be shipped. inconsistancy was questioned, and he said because of a delay in the check cashing, the car in Seattle was sold out from under him, and he went for another car that was similar. All this happened (if it happened) without a word from him. I was strongly urging her to get her money back, but she is literally, sick and tired at this point. She decides to just hope he's legit. After about a month of him never initiating contact, and no progress she finally stands up to him, and he agree's to give her a "loaner" which is a piece of S 83-84ish Ford Thunderbird that smells, and looks as if it's going to fall apart any minute. It has since stopped working. March 7th, I decide to google this guy, and come to find out, as a matter of public record, in February of 2010 this guy was jailed for 7 counts of "punitive contempt", which led me to believe that our fears were a reality. By the way, we have threatened him with a lawsuit, and going after his business. He gets angry, but doesn't seem too concerned. He agreed to give the money back, but claims he paid someone for the car, and has been trying to get the money back. This is a 63yr old woman with terminal cancer who needs a car to get to and from her many Dr. appointments, hospitalizations, and chemo treatments. This guy is a con artist, who will obviously take money from the best of people, with no concious. |
