I met this person on the internet after he was able to find me since my auto insurance company is being investigated. At first, I was very concerned, and believed that the lawyer on the phone with me really had my best interests at heart.
As it turned out, they were the ones making the investigation, and after I researched the matter, I realized my insurance company hadn't broken any laws. The only reason that Eccleston was investigating was to create fear among customers, and to file a law suit on behalf on anyone stupid enough to go through with it.
Heres what they wanted:
1)1,500 up front.
2)about 5 or 6 different filing fees varying from 35.00 to 425.00 dollars each
3)my bank account and routing number for future billing ( which I declined of course)
4)finally if they recover anything, they will then take 33%
I am told they no longer attemp to get your bank account number, but all others fees and charges, plus more still remain.
I read somewhere that his office is a sublet with a pawn shop on the other side. He has no secretaries or receptionists. It is just 4 or 5 poorly dressed middle aged men all sharing 2 offices. I even heard Jim Eccleston was taken by mistake to be the janitor. I wouldn't be surprised if within 24 hours of this posting, James will issue a rebuttle himself. Since there is such a limited staff, he will be doing it himself. I must be honest, I dont know for sure of the size of his office, or what it looks like. I am only going by what I have heard. However, the rest of this is 100% accurate, and I bet other victims of Eccleston Law will soon surface.

This is a whacky complaint by an unidentified person whom we believe is a broker or employee of a very disreputable brokerage firm.
Specifically, first, we haven’t “met” this person “over the Internet” or otherwise.
Second, we don’t practice insurance company law as the person suggests. Instead, we represent brokers and investors in securities matters. As an example, one current active matter is against David Lerner Associates Inc. and its Apple REIT products, which were fraudulently and unsuitably sold to investors. We have arbitration and class action cases on file against the firm on behalf of investors. Hundreds of investors have contacted us and we would be happy to discuss how we can help investors on a contingency fee basis. Securities regulator FINRA has sued David Lerner Associates as well over the Apple REITS and we would be happy to provide the complaint to anyone who requests it.
Third, we lease nice space in downtown Chicago (not a sublet from a pawn shop). But we have not been able to reap the kind of profits that some brokerage firms have reaped, so we do not own the building and we own no Lear jets – unlike, for example, the David Lerner firm that just bought its second Lear jet. Our clients cannot afford them, I concede, as we are just honest lawyers typically working on contingency fee based upon results in trying to help victimized investors. And, no, we don’t ask for or require bank account numbers. Our situation is far different than that of some brokerage firms, for example, David Lerner Associates, which recently had to appear before a FINRA disciplinary hearing over charges that it had billed excessive commissions to investors buying and selling bonds.
Fourth, sometimes the truth hurts, and it seems that one or more of our blog posts, arbitration or class action complaints have struck a nerve. The firm does not post (and has not posted) any lies, half-truths, or innuendo about any of the targets of our investigations or potential defendants (many of whom also have been targeted by securities regulators for violating securities laws or self-regulatory organization rules). The firm takes pride in the manner in which we interface with our prospective and actual clients.
Fifth, it is true that we need to ask certain questions to prospective clients to determine whether or not they have a viable case. We protect and keep confidential all information provided by clients and also by prospective clients. Although the terms and scope of our representation varies from case-to-case (and always is memorialized in a written engagement letter), we do in some cases ask the investor to bear certain costs and expense, such as filing fees. This practice is common among law firms, and is not unreasonable or unusual.
Sixth, our attorneys adhere to nothing but the highest ethical standards, including honesty and integrity. In fact, numerous independent attorney rating agencies have evaluated the firm and its attorneys and have given them their highest ratings. For example, the prestigious Martindale-Hubble has bestowed upon James Eccleston the coveted AV® Peer Review Rating (which is the highest possible rating for both integrity and ethics). James Eccleston has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer every year since its inception in 2005. Therefore, any suggestion the firm or its attorneys engage in dishonest or unethical practices is an unfortunate attempt to (unfairly) tarnish the firm’s reputation. |

| I wasn't a victim of this Eccleston guy but I am well acquainted with these types of lawyers. They are basically ambulance chasers. I got a ticket once and the letters I got from lawyers was astounding. I cut a deal with the prosecutor on my own. They sue everyone with the "if we throw enough mud against the wall some of it will stick" mentality. Unfortunately they are a fact of life but fortunately they are easy to avoid, just don't call them. If it looks like a shady lawyer and smells like a shady lawyer it's probably a shady lawyer. In this case it's name is James Eccleston. |

If this sentence isn't the winner of the oxymoron of the year award Eccleston should higher an attorney and sue!
