I just got schooled in the world of internet background checks. While the one I actually used was ebackgroundreport.com, they seem to all use the same bait and switch tactics. Here's how it works. The home page has a search field where you put in a name, hit search and then the search results are displayed. These results typically show the name of the person searched, age and list of cities and what reports are available. (Ie, if there is a criminal reprt, it will tell you that a criminal report exists). Enter the bait and switch. Then they give you the "pricing menu" which starts with a low "teaser" rate such as $4.95 for one day access or $19.99 for unlimited access for one month. Then they give you the $29.99 and finally the $39.99 for a full year (best value).
Well, like most, I just picked the $19.99 one and what did I get? "Access" to the site. Yes, that's it. NOTHING ELSE. I paid $19.99 just to get on the site. When you put in a search, you get the results and the only thing it displays is the EXACT SAME info it displayed before you paid, except now it gives you the up-sell where it tells you there is more detailed info in the "premium" membership, which you can up grade for ONLY $2.95 and then you will be charged MONTHLY $29.99 until you cancel. Yeah good luck trying to cancel. A true scam. Stay away from this site, and quite frankly, everyone of these sites.
