Dolan Moving and Storage Dolan has evaded me, lied to me and ripped me off! Waterbury, Connecticut |

Two and a half years ago my sisters and I hired Dolan Moving and Storage to move our deceased father's belongings out of his house. Two out of three of us also needed to have Dolan store the items. On Sept. 2, I supervised a different moving company pick up all of my items, as I was preparing for a move from NYC to Pittsburgh, and would have space for all of the items in storage in my new house. Everything went smoothly while loading the truck with all of my stuff, although they were terribly disorganized and the new movers that I hired had several eye rolls. First, they told me they had moved the day before I scheduled to pick everything up, then their inventory list was illegible. These things were not enough to put me over the edge. All went well with my actual move using Dahill Moving. Once I arrived in Pittsburgh, they unloaded the van and the new movers noticed that the plastic wrap around one of my couches that had been stored with Dolan was ripped. Once they removed the plastic wrap, it was revealed that the underside of my leather pull-out sofa bed was ripped to shreds and that there were mouse feces all within the couch and sofa bed. The new movers instructed that I have it cleaned immediately because mouse feces can carry all kinds of bacteria. I called Mike, the front man for Dolan, and explained the situation. He was extremely apologetic, sympathetic and felt terrible that this happened because he felt like "I am like family". He told me to find someone to clean it and even called back later to suggest a company who may do work like that. We discussed reimbursing me and he said I had not purchased extra insurance, so I had the minimum by law, which is 60 cents a pound. He told me to find a company to do the cleaning and to let him know the amount so he could reimburse me. I found a company who came to my house to clean, steam, sanitize and replace the underside cloth of the couch. I called Dolan to let them know the amount - $160.50. I left a message and asked them to call back. I never heard from them, so the following week I called back and Mike made up some story about how he misunderstood my message and thought I was calling him back. I told him the amount and reminded him that he promised to have the company reimburse me. He said he would discuss it with his boss and get in touch with me in a couple of days. Time passed and I tried calling again. No answer. I know for a fact that Mike knows my phone number because I have called and he has picked up saying hello to me. I called several times, leaving messages and did not get in touch with him. Finally I blocked my number and he answered. He explained that his boss did not think it was his problem and did not feel that he needed to pay me. I said, you have mice in your warehouse ruining your customers furniture and he does not think it's his problem? I asked to speak to the boss directly and he simply said, he won't speak to you. He doesn't deal with these kind of issues and he won't talk to you. I said I planned on reporting them to the Dept. of Health and the Better Business Bureau, in addition to posting reviews everywhere I could. He said he would go back to his boss with this information and be in touch with me. I asked him to please not avoid me and to simply call me with a straight answer. Of course, I did not hear from Mike. Again, I called and left messages. Finally when I blocked my number he answered. He became increasingly impatient with me and I said, all I want is to be reimbursed the money that they owe me as a result of a mouse infestation in their facility. He said I cannot prove this was a result of their facility. Actually, I can. I had 9,000 pounds of furniture on my moving truck to Pittsburgh. Not one single item other than the couch had a dropping in it. Everything is in perfect condition. Dolan had storage about half of these items, but every item they storage other than the couch was in a wooden storage crate. They had a separate area for couches because they do not fit in the containers. So this one couch was alone and this one couch was infested with mice. Dolan has historically been difficult and evasive throughout the years of trying to make claims for damaged or stolen goods. In this situation, they have been rude and deceitful. I have ZERO doubt that their warehouse is infested with mice and zero doubt that they owe me $160.50. Of course, this is not the amount of $40,000 as posted above. This company is unprofessional and should never be trusted. They will do nothing but take advantage of you, lie to you and steal your money.
