DirecTV They offer a $100 referral fee and fail to give it out unless you jump through specific hoops! Boynton Beach, Florida |

The following is cut/paste of my exchange with DIRECTV Names and account numbers show as (delete). Request from me: I was referred to DirecTV by Terry (delete). Her account number is (delete). On the phone, when ordering, I was told you no longer pay for referrals. Then, the installation man said "you do". Now, I get these offers in the mail and email saying you do pay. Terry (delete) convinced me to go with DirecTV instead of Dish, and I did so. The last name is the same - but we are not related and have different addresses as you can see in our separate account information. Please let me know why no referral was paid on this account and hers. Thank you, Denial from DIRECTV: Dear Mr. (delete), Thanks for writing and welcome to DIRECTV. I understand your questions about the referral offer. For reference, to be eligible for the referral credit ($10 bill credit for 10 months), the customer being referred must place their order through our website at or the special referral phone number (1-866-443-8869) and provide the existing customer's account information. Our records indicate that you aren't eligible for the referral credit because you did not place your order using one of these methods. Our records show that you ordered DIRECTV through one of our retailers, Direct StarTV. Also, since your DIRECTV account is already active, we can no longer add the referral offer to your account. Please visit our web site at for more information about the Customer Referral Program. Sincerely, El V. - 100188879 DIRECTV Customer Service My response to their denial: This is very misleading and, I might add, unfair. I asked about it on the phone when I ordered. The woman had a responsibility to explain it to me at that time and did not do so. I will pay until the minimum amount of time is over on the contract - but rest assured I will not renew. I will switch to the competition then. Again - this was not handled properly by YOU and was not the fault of the customer - me. My Facebook entry regarding the matter: I signed up with DirecTV. At the time, I asked about the $100.00 referral and was told "...they don't offer it any longer." Later, I got flier offering it in the mail. I asked what was up and DirecTV responded that I signed up wrong and that I am not eligible because of "MY mistake". I will switch to someone else as soon as this contract is up. In my opinion, these people are crooks! |
