Cunningham Enterprise
Cunningham Enterprise, L.L.C. D.B.A. Cunningham Tire A very bad experience Danville, Virginia
26th of Jan, 2011 by
My mother took her car to Cunningham's for an inspection sticker on 8/9/2010 and at the time they told her that she would need a tie rod, brake pads, alignment and rotors. They put a reject sticker on the car and I returned on 8/13/2010 to have the brake work done.Well I sat there while the car was being repaired and four hours later I get up to see what in the world was taking so long, I was told by the clerk that the mechanic was almost finish. Once the mechanic was finish I pulled out and noticed that he hadnt put my state inspection sticker on the car so I had to pull back up to allow him to put the sticker on.

So already I am disguised so I am driving the car and I start hearing the brakes squeak and a burnt smell, so I am thinking it's new brake pads it will wear off. Unfortunately, it got worse. The noise grew louder, the smell got worse, and the car was pulling to the left, and the wheels were locking up. We paid $249.94 to have this work then and we felt we had been ripped off because of faulty work. So I go back Cunningham a month later and explain to them that something is not right and the young lady at the counter said that a mechanic would take a look at it. About thirty minutes later she comes back and says "oh he didnt she anything wrong with it so we (Cunningham) is not responsible."

Knowing that something was definetly wrong I told her I know I am not crazy. So we continued to drive the car and finally the wheels where locking up so bad that we took the car back to them on 12/28/2010 and told the guy at the counter that it was squeaking, smoke was coming from the left tire, and the brake pedal would be hard to the touch. The guy told us to bring it back the first thing on 12/29/2010 and he would have a mechanic to check it. Well we goes back they pull the car in the back and check, this time it takes an hour. The mechanic tells us that it appears that the brake fluid is contaminated possibly with power steering fluid or it could be the Portion Valve and they could fix.My mother and I are standing there like we know that no one has worked on the car other than Cunningham so it was no way the brake fluid could have been contaminated unless it was done there.

We told them that we would it some where else to have the car checked out due the possibility of severe damage to the car. On 1/24/20111 we took the car to Danville Toyoya and had them to check the car out. We received a call the next day that the mechanic discovered that the brake fluid was indeed contaminated and it had damaged the entire brake system and we would need a master cylinder, brake hoses, wheel cyclinders, and caliber and the bill would come to $747.86. We were outrage, so I contacted Cunningham Tire and spoke with the Manager Shawn and explained the situation to him and he stated that I needed to speak with the owner David Cunningham and that he would be in on Thursday January 28,2011 at 8:30am.

So my mother and I go to talk with David and we explained from the beginning what had happen and I showed him the bill from Toyota detailing what had to be done to correct the damage that was done to the car. He stated that he didnt feel that his mechanics did any wrong and that because it did not state on my invoice date 8/13/2010 that any brake fluid was added then Cunningham was not responsible for any damages. I question him about my visist back in September when after only one month I was bring the car back due to problems I noticed immediately after I pulled from the lot, and it was only when we returned a second time notifying them that smoke was coming from the left wheel that the car was check over more carefully and it was deterimined at that time there was something seriously wrong with the car.

David didnt offer to pay any of the expenses we had incurred to have the car brought back to safe driving conditions. I feel that my mother and I received a botched brake job from Cunningham Tire and they are unwilling to admit that something when wrong at their shop. I am contacting Consumer Protection with the Attorney General's Office in Virginia and North Carolina which are the states that Cunningham Tire is doing business. I will not allow this to happen to anyone else!
