Consumer Recovery Associates CRA Harassing phone calls and even pulled my credit report WITHOUT authorization!! Virginia Beach, Virginia |

Got a phone call early this morning from someone named Shannon Dodge from CRA. She stated that her call was to 'get to the bottom of a 1099c that was filed with the IRS'. She then said that I owed $879 to Credit One Bank and rattled off my account number, my social and my married name. Before I could say anything, she said she was transferring me to her supervisor because her supervisor had all of my information. The 'supervisor' came on the line and said that I owed $879 to Credit One Bank. I said that was not possible because I had a current account with them and it was in good standing. She said that I was lying and that she was there to help me get that account into good standing. I asked her to send me all of the information by mail and she said 'we have and you have ignored us'. I said this was the first I had heard of owing anything to anybody and that this seemed like a scam. She told me I was rude and needed to take care of my responsibility or she would contact my employer and report me to the IRS which could make me lose my job and owe the IRS thousands in penalties. She also talked over me every time I tried to say something so I abruptly stopped her and said I told her that she was rude and that her threats were illegal and I was going to report her to the FTC. I asked her once again to send me the information by mail and she responded by saying 'I am marking you down as a refusal to pay and you will have to deal with the consequences'. Then she hung up on me. I called Credit One Bank and they assured me that my account was in good standing...even gave me a credit line increase. They made a note on my account that someone had my account information and they said that they would investigate. After I got off the phone with them, I pulled up my credit report (I have the monitoring service through USAA) and sure enough, I see two hard inquiries from CRA. Of course, I did not authorize these and I am livid! I have filed a report with the FTC and contacted the credit reporting agencies. UGH! |
