If you sold a car through ClassicCarmarketing.net in Orange County, California between 2006 and late 2010 you should know that during that time they were collecting large commissions from their clients and they were not licensed by the state or the DMV to do so. During that time they were collecting anywhere from 3% to 7% on the sales of vehicles they marketed, but during that time they were not a licensed by the DMV or the State as dealer or auto broker, and because of this they could charge a flat marketing fee, but NOT a percentage of the final sale price. To charge a percentage of the final price on the sale of a car in California you MUST BE A LICENSED DEALER THROUGH THE DMV. In late 2010 the DMV opened an investigation into ClassicCarMarketing.net and their business practices, specifically the illegal collection of commissions on the sales of cars from 2006 until 2010, but because only one customer came forward at the time the District Attorney did not prosecute, but that does not change the fact that if you sold a vehicle through this company during this time, and if you paid a percentage of the sales price in fees those fees were collected illegally. If enough of their hundreds of customers that sold cars through ClassicCarMarketing.net gather together this would be on heck of a Class Action lawsuit. The owner Rick Abate claims that in 2009 alone they sold over 300 cars. Imagine if they illegally collected around 5% on an average price of $30,000 on a classic car. At 300 cars that comes to $450,000! This is a simple heads up to any former customers. After the DMV investigation ClassicCarMarketing.net changed their business practices to only collect a flat marketing fee, but that doesnt change the fact they collected possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars (Millions?) illegally over roughly four years. Again, if you sold a car, AND they collected a percentage fee based on the sales price, and this happened to you between 2006 and late 2010, then those fees were collected illegally.
