I purchased a 2002 745i after viewing photos posted on their website and making an offer. Once they accepted the offer, I flew 1500 miles to pick the vehicle up. To start off, I waited 45 minutes at the bus station even though I specifically told Ron what time I would be there.
Over the phone I was told the vehicle was in "Showroom" condition - clearly it was not. Each corner of the vehicle had scratches, not to mention a large scratch in front of the drivers rear wheel - this scratch was NOT on the vehicle while viewing Chase's online photos. The hood, trunk, and drivers side of the vehicle had large paint imperfections when viewed in the correct light. The stereo immediately had problems, but it wasn't until I got home that I realized that the vehicle had recently been in an accident. The headlight on the passenger side had been replaced with a new unit (which didn't match, the new unit had an amber lens instead of a clear lens, but their online photos showed that they matched), and it appears Chase also tinker-toyed the headlight back together. The HID bulb was a cheap, aftermarket unit that wasn't even designed for the headlight assembly and emitted practically no usable light - apparently they thought this was suitable for my 1500 mile road trip back home. Additionally whoever did the work to the vehicle didn't bother to put any of the bolts that secure any of the plastic farings in the engine compartment.
Beyond this there were many issues electronically with the vehicle and the stereo/navigation system, as well as the HVAC controls. I also specifically asked Ron if the vehicle leaked any fluids and he said no. Sure enough, it did.
I purchased a new headlight and Chase Auto refunded me $500 (which took 3 1/2 weeks to receive). Additionally when I went to the DMV to license the vehicle, there were inconsistencies in the dates on the title and the purchase agreement. Becuase of this I had to send the title back to Chase so they could work out their paperwork errors.
2 months later, I have already traded the vehicle in as it had too many problems which I feel Chase knew about but did not disclose to me. When I made this accusation, they did not deny that they knew of these problems. Also, getting Ron to call you back after you purchased a vehicle was nothing short of pulling teeth.
Internet buyers, be very aware of the vehicles you see on their website. I found out later that the vehicle had been purchased from a leasing company and had been beaten. Every panel on the vehicle had been repainted w/ substandard materials. I do not recommend Chase Auto to anybody and I must say this was the worst car-buying experience I have ever had. |
