Cellular Sales, Brian Scott Cowardly leader Aberdeen, North Carolina
21st of Dec, 2011 by User376840
I was employed with Cellular Sales, which is an authorized retailer for Verizon Wireless. I debated whether or not I was going to write this complaint because my issue isn't necessarily with the company but a particular individual within the company, Brian Scott. I've seen other complaints regarding Cellular Sales and their business practices, and I can honestly say it's not the case. Cellular Sales is a great opportunity, with a lot of potential to succeed. They originally sent me through a week of training in Charleston which was very motivational, and that's suppose to be the company theme. However, once I was assigned to my team lead, which would be Brian Scott, all motivation and morale went right out the window. Brian Scott is hands down the worst leader I have ever witnessed in my life. I've been in sales for years, and I've seen it all. I wouldn't even label Brian as a leader but that's the role he plays. We are independent contractors at Cellular Sales so we don't work directly under supervision on a daily basis, so we must communicate with Brian by phone. It's almost impossible to get in touch with Brian. He never answers his phone. If he does communicate, it's strictly through text. If there are any issues within the store you will never resolve it face to face with Brian. He hides behind the text messaging. He is a coward, and as a leader he should handle confrontation like a leader should. We have weekly meetings at the Aberdeen store. In any sales job I've had, the meetings were always motivational, especially since we are 100% commission. Brian held the meetings to instill fear in all of his employees. And we really aren't his employees. As I said, we are independent contractors. He would constantly tell us, if we didn't like something, then hit the door. By the time I left the company Sales reps were stealing sales from each other, fighting all of the time, and he did nothing about it. Many reps tried to call him but as I stated earlier, he was impossible to get ahold of. Morale was terribly low in Brian's stores. Again, it's not so much an issue with Cellular Sales as a company...only Brian Scott's role as a leader. Leadership is less about your needs, and more about the needs of the people and the organization you are leading. Brian only cares about his own success. Brian will not help a rep with ANYTHING unless it benefits him. My sales number were consistently good, and I always hit my goals. In July, and August I was working 6 days a week, and made $7,500 each month. Who else is making that selling wireless phones?? As I said, great company, lots of opportunity. There were a hand full of people that Brian didn't want to see succeed, and I was one of them, so he gave me the worst shifts, and cut me down to 4 days a week. I still continued to hit my sales goals! His 80 year old father who is also a sales rep got the best shifts, and Brian scheduled him 6 days a week, and the guy still never hit his goals. Never even came close to me. But as I said, it's all about Brian Scott. One of the great things about working for Cellular Sales is the flexibility, and having your schedule put out a month in advance. Well, on Brian's team we didn't have that luxury. Since the day I started there...every Sunday night we would have to stay up late to find out if we had to work that Monday or not. We had to wait for Brian's text every Sunday night. So, no one knew until late Sunday night whether or not they were working that Monday. The guy is completely unorganized. Another benefit to working for the company is swapping shifts with other reps from other stores. Not if you work for Brian. Brian would not let any other rep come from another store, and work in his stores. These were benefits, and opportunities that I saw in Cellular Sales before taking the job. It's not a Cellular Sales rule...it's Brian's rule! The morale is extremely low in his stores soley because of HIM! If anyone reading this is entertaining the thought of working for Cellular Sales, I encourage it. It's a great company. Don't listen to other people who have a negative outlook on the company. It's not true. Just don't work for Brian Scott. Go to another area and work for Cellular Sales. You will not be happy working for this guy. You've been warned. Don't say I didn't tell you so if you do. I'm not writing this because I have bitter feelings for the guy. I'm just genuily telling you...this guy is the worst leader I have ever encountered in my life. No joke. Many other reps feel the same way but they fear him so nothing is ever said. Right before I left, about 7 reps or so were talking about writing an anonymous letter to Brian's boss in Charleston to express the concerns I wrote about here. It was probably never done but it just goes to show, if that's how reps are talking about their boss but are too afraid to confront him about it, then it should certainly raise some flags. Stay away from this coward!! Good luck!
