We hired Scott Caron to complete an approximate 3000 sq ft addition including: All carpentry of roof, interior walls and windows, stairs etc..., masonry of fireplace, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, sheetrock, roofing, painting, tiling, decks and all other details to finish the house completely. We hired him to oversee and finish the entire job after we discovered our current carpenter was stealing materials. It was winter and we were in a hurry to get the addition weather tight so we had to choose a contractor quickly. Caron Electric gave us a set price to finish the project (all inclusive, not based on hourly) and promised a schedule once they started. We never got a schedule, Scott Caron started demanding payments on a weekly basis even though he was falling far behind his proposed finish date and threatened to walk off the job if not paid each week. He started charging overages for things he had promised to complete within the original contract. Numerous times got extremely angry, yelled at us, including swearing and yelling in front of my clients at the house, and eventually refused to talk with us except by email. After 6 moths he personally stopped showing up at the job site and only sent two workers to the site each day. The work became less and less professional. Then in October 2010 he disappeared with only $9000 left in in his contract. The addition when they left had no HVAC at all, only rough plumbing and electric and we discovered that he had forged the signature of the plumbing inspector to make it look like he had approval. It then cost us another $103,000 to complete all of the work that he had been contracted and paid for. All those new subs that were brought in said it looked as if Caron Electric had never intended to finish the job (for example there were wires that didnt go anywhere). This was our fourth major construction project and we have never had a single issue with anyone we worked with. We have never seen a more unprofessional and dishonest business dealing. |
